South Sister is a beautiful mountain with a trail to the summit. I have climbed that trail 7 times already. I took my boys to the summit at ages 7 and 8. Lakes surround this peak as well as one being at the summit itself....More

Oregon 3rd highest mountain, South Sisters is a perfect for well prepared and avid hikers. It can get cold in the morning hours and on the summit and roasting hot in the afternoon on the mid-mountain. The top third of the hike is on volcanic...More

6 miles each way, direct trail. After the first 1.7 miles of switchbacks, flat and open with panoramic views then a steep hike up the business side of the south ridge. Take the time to explore the lake at the edge of the glacier before...More

We hiked it on 7/5/17. It was +90 degrees at the trailhead and there was still snow on the trail a couple miles into the hike. It is a pretty hike that hugs Fall Creek. There is a nice log footbridge over the creek within...More

South Sister is one of the Cascades' tallest mountains, and an active volcano (fortunately, not active in the last few years, but you never know). Enter the hike from Century Drive, and enjoy a long steady uphill through the woods. Great variety of volcanic rocks...More

We enjoyed seeing South Sister. it is the tallest of the Three Sisters - the other two being Middle Sister and North Sister. its a good place for hiking, albeit, challenging at times.

Ten adults set out to hike the South Sister to the summit. We made a detour to Lake Moraine which was beautiful and calm in the am. You can see the reflection of the mountain off the lake. The hike to the summit is pretty...More

Truer words were never spoken about this hike. There is no technical gear needed but it's 11.6 miles up and down with a 4800+ foot in elevation gain. Five of us off-duty firefighters started about 7 am and returned about 5pm after spending almost an...More
