About Wild Cave Tours
Experiences in wild (undeveloped) caves since 1989, with caving club leaders, at Mole Creek Karst National Park (on the edge of the Wilderness World Heritage Area).Handy to Cradle Mountain, Launceston and Devonport. Club caving began here in 1946 (Australia’s first caving club, the Tasmanian Caverneering Club). Discoveries are still being made. Some 450 caves are currently known, attracting club cavers from interstate and overseas. Mountain catchments feed streams that sink into the ground and which are important for the karst ecology, endemic "living fossils" cave fauna and local water supplies. Forest cover sustains active biogeochemical processes of cave mineralisation. While “show” caves are easy to access, specialised equipment and leadership is necessary to explore “wild” caves safely and with minimal impact. Each cave involves different grades of difficulty to explore and different opportunities for photography, adventure, geomorphology and fauna interpretation. This licensed, accredited Tasmanian tourism business supports WildCare, Tasmanian Land Conservancy and Australian Bush Heritage.Half day trips for the tourist market. Includes overalls, helmets and lights hire plus lunch (full day on request).Special interest group programs include an option to abseil a wide 24 m deep sinkhole into the cave, with excellent spectator viewing.

Absolutely awesome, one of the best adventure experiences I have ever been on. The Multiple caving options were made available and the tour was tailored to our interested and abilities. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable while the two caves we visited were both different and incredible in their own right. I would highly recommend doing this tour.

We had an amazing first time caving experience with Deb. She is an expert caver and made us feel completely at ease throughout the time we were in some deep caves with her. Very knowledgeable about ecology and geology she was a mine of information throughout our tour. The experience of being in an otherwise completely dark cave with hundreds of glow worms is one I will never forget. Whilst you might get a superficial package holiday style caving experience more cheaply with a mass market operator, to get real quality and the best memories Wild Cave Tours will not disappoint.

Thanks! What a pleasure and privilege it was to be out and about again, under the snowy peaks of kooparoona niara (Great Western Tiers). It was an amazing day for me and Jess to take you caving, being the grand reopening day post Covid lockdown. We hope to see more Tasmanians now, taking this opportunity to find what lies beneath. Coming to see these undeveloped or "wild" caves, and enjoying their own amazing "backyard" in a more in-depth way than they have before. I'm glad to know you have enjoyed the experience. Deb

My partner and I stumbled upon Wild Cave Tours while planning our trip to Tasmania and we immediately dropped Deb an email to find out more. Having only done one other adventure cave tour before, we were worried that this may be out of our league. Deb was quick to reassure us that we would be up to it, and we felt comfortable making a booking. On the day of the tour, we met with Deb and felt her warmth right away. She went through the safety instructions and provided a list of caves of which we could pick one to explore that morning. It was just us and another solo traveller and the three of us unanimously voted for the Sassafras cave. We were drawn to the chance to see glow worms in a secluded wild cave where we would be the only visitors. It was a short drive to the start with a toilet stop (the only one for the duration of the tour). Upon alighting, we changed into the provided overalls, knee pads, boots, gloves, and donned the helmets with headlights. The year round temperature in the Tasmanian caves is 9 degrees Celsius and a base layer top, leggings and shorts under the overalls were sufficiently warm for the tour. It was a 15 min hike to the cave entrance and my partner and I were taken aback when we saw how tiny it was! Deb led the way and we were transported into a world like no other. I don't want to spoil things for readers by divulging too much, but my partner and I had the best time. The tour was the perfect balance of adventure in an out-of-this-world environment and fascinating commentary by Deb. The 1h 40min exploration passed by too soon and we exited the cave from different point from where we had entered, feeling in awe at what we had experienced. Deb is a fantastic and knowledgeable guide and we felt safe at every moment of the tour. The walk back felt much longer (although it was probably only around 20 mins) and we were feeling very warm when we finally arrived back at the vehicle. However, all discomfort was forgotten when Deb laid out a spread of one of the best meals we had in Tasmania. The homemade food was simply delicious and we enjoyed getting to know more about Deb and the work she does for the community. Her enthusiasm for the caves was infectious and we couldn't be more grateful to her for bringing us on this journey. We highly recommend Wild Cave Tours to travellers looking for a unique and fun experience in Tasmania.

I'm glad you had a good experience, and thank you for such detailed comments! It's important for me to get insight into how others see the caves and the experience. And it;'s important for potential customers. When one travels, it's hard to know where to spend your money and where to save it from just travel page listings. Insightful reviews help others to get more out of their Tasmania holiday. Cheers
