Walked into Shadow Lake on Friday afternoon carrying packs. The climb is hard in that it is all up hill on the way in. The camping ground at Shadow Lake is well set out and the water at Shadow Lake is drinkable so don't carry...More

We lucked it with 2 cloud free days at lake saint Clare. On day 2 we did the Shadow lake walk clockwise having decided mid point not to do Mt Rufus. It’s a tough walk with many places only a foot hold wide but other...More

We were recommended to do the Shadow Lake walk and backtrack on the same path as it was shorter. We felt good once we got to the top so decided to take the circuit which was a bit longer than backtracking. We were so glad...More

There are a number of walks to choose from in and around Lake St Clair. Would liked to have some the full Mount Rufus 7 hour circuit, but chose this one instead as the missus was carrying a dodgy back. It's a good 4-5 walk,...More

We made a stop here for a quick walk, which was about an hours easy walk. It was lovely to see hikers setting of for serious walking while we had a coffee at the information centre cafe.

The sights were not there. The beauty of the surroundings was lacking. It was on the whole pretty disappointing. Though, a walk is always fun is you have good companions (which I did).

You can do this as a circuit walk or straight there and back if pushed for time. Don't forget to add Forgotten Lake (!). Good any time of the year depending on weather. Have done this in summer and in winter after a snow fall....More

The Mt Rufus/Shadow lakes circuit stunned us - the views of the wild peaks, the natural garden of Scoparia valley and the Myrtle forest - not to mention the lakes, rivers and wetlands. The Mt Rufus part of the walk is the real highlight and...More

Good walk - we were there during September and the track was very wet - make sure you wear good hiking shoes. It was so peaceful and a decent walk you would need a reasonable fitness level. Make sure you take a small picnic and...More

Start at the further point from Cynthia Bay Rangers base as the hardest stretch is then at the end and all downhill :) Great walk and fabulous flora and fauna on this moderate 4-5 hour walk.
