Brilliant museum

This extensive museum in the heart of Millthorpe is a must do experience when visiting this quaint town. The history of the town is showcased in several pavilions. Staffed by very helpful and knowledgeable volunteers, it is well maintained, well laid out and extremely engaging.

I was pleased to see an acknowledgment of the traditional Aboriginal owners of the land.

Allow at least an hour to wander through the museum.

This museum is a must

The volunteers running this museum are the nicest, friendliest people you could hope to meet. The exhibits of steam and horse powered agricultural equipment cover more than two centuries. The homage to 100 greatest Australia inventions is a must for everyone. If you are lucky you may be able to see a live demonstration with a real blacksmith. This is one of the best local museums we have ever visited.

A nicely done local museum. Very friendly and helpful guide at the main desk. $20 for a family entrance. A fascinating collection of objects, particularly the farm equipment. Great to show the kids how things ere done in the “olden days”. Love the exhibition on great Australian inventions.

Good museum in Millthorpe. So worth going into. Much bigger than looks from front & lots of updates being done. The Australian inventions room is really good & interesting & funny. Really underrated & yet so worth a visit. Neat tidy & some very interesting pieces.

Something for everyone

The museum has a variety of everyday living, schooling, war and farm machinery on display. The information provided with items was very interesting. Great way to spend a couple of hours learning about the past. There were many different buildings concentrating on different things ie. one building had information on schooling in the area, another had many farm implements in it.

Once was Millthorpe?
Jul 2018 • Friends
The Golden Memories Museum is well worth a visit, however long or short, for fascinating insights into the history of the National Trust-listed town of Millthorpe and surrounds.

Unlike most historical museums, the house interior reconstructions and technological machinery and vehicle displays are uncluttered and well explained, in parts supported by press button videos and sound effects.

Coolgardie safe? Tick. Old style ice safes? Tick. Ingenious self-setting rabbit traps? Tick. Egg drycleaning contraptions? Tick. An ingenious stump buster? Tick. Old style gramophone? Tick.

As the years roll by, 'keeping places' like this will only grow in importance as a reminder of Millthorpe's place in the sun as prosperous Victorian era agricultural town.
