About
Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the intriguing second wife of Henry VIII and mother of Elizabeth I. The castle is a romantic double moated 13th-century castle which houses historic 16th-century portraits, paintings, furniture, tapestries and treasures. Comprehensive information on the history of Hever Castle can be found in the guide book and audio tours are available from the Hever Shop, Visitor Centre or castle entrance. Visitors can explore the magnificent gardens for all seasons which include Italian, Rose and Tudor gardens, topiary, yew maze and splashing water maze, or take a stroll around the informal areas of Sunday Walk and Anne Boleyn's Walk. Hever hosts a number of special events throughout the season including gardening events with the head gardener and his team. Family fun includes jousting tournaments each summer, one of our most popular events.

Where Kings and Queens have stepped
Oct 2021
Shortly after the execution of Anne Bolelyn and her brother George their father and mother died. The castle fell to the hand of King Henry VIII of England. He didn't maintain the castle and it fell into serious dis-repair, but was saved by one William Waldorf Astor who rebuilt and restored in a very fitting manner. There are audio guides provided as part of your entrance fee. The castle and grounds are excellently maintained

What an experience
Oct 2021
Fantastic experience. Room was wonderful with great view. Make sure to get around the castle early as it gets pretty crowded when the coaches arrive. Cameras are allowed, (without flash), and got some memorable shots. For eating out ther King Henry is easy walking distance, but next nearest is down very narrow road. Would not feel safe walking in the dark. The biggest let down is that the Pubs get busy, so DO book early, and so do the taxis. We had no choice on collection time.

It was wonderful.

Fantastic day out
Oct 2021 • Couples
I am a huge fan of Tudor history and Anne Boleyn on particular and have wanted to visit Hever for years. Autumn is a beautiful time to see the castle, which is absolutely full of fantastic items and history. The gardens and land are gorgeous too. The shop is great as is the cafe. We spent all day here and will definitely be going back. They put on special events for Halloween and Christmas too which look like great fun!

Heavenly place
Oct 2021
What a peaceful, beautiful and amazing place ! The gardens are heavenly. My only gripe would be to have more wildlife meadows or just letting the grass grow longer in the walks through the woodland areas around the Italianate garden and the Anne Boleyn walk, etc. The other side of the lake has more wildlife meadows and there was much more wildlife over that side. Stunning place, loved the water maze, the main maze, the castle. Will definitely return.

Provision for elderly
Oct 2021
A fabulous and fascinating place but seriously lacking in provision for the elderly. Attending with a group of seniors from on a local historical outing, 90 year olds were expected to walk from the coach park to the castle and on again to the Pavillion. There is no buggy available and only two wheelchairs.

We are sorry to hear of your disappointment during your visit to Hever Castle, and we apologise that there was no buggy available for your group to use. We have now purchased a new buggy and this will be available for visitors in assisting them from the main entrance down to the information kiosk. We do have more wheelchairs available for visitors to use located in the Hever Shop, and we apologise that this was not made clear to you to assist you and your group during their visit. Thank you for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back to Hever Castle soon.

More homage to the Astors than Boleyns
Sep 2021 • Solo
If you are looking for an original Tudor experience then there are better houses to visit as little of the interior of the original house remains.
Restored by the Astors ‘using Tudor techniques and materials to create an authentic look’, many of the Tudor artefacts have been bought in, including a good collection of Tudor portraits.
Audio tour (included) is worth taking. The rub off feature which shows what the rooms would have been like is very good.
The Tudor village is inaccessible to day visitors.
The gardens are beautifully maintained and vast.
IMO the entry charge or cost of food on site was not excessive and in line with similar venues.

Don’t bother if you like history....but garden lovely
Sep 2021 • Couples
Awful...no history whatsoever...essentially it was “Anne Boleyn was here”.... room guides not interested in talking to you....so disappointed!!!
Everything overpriced essentially just a money making pit....had been looking forward to visiting for ages....wanted to learn something new about Anne Boleyn’s life but no chance....such a shame....because it could be a really informative learning experience....Gardens were gorgeous but that was not why we went....rooms had dusty mannequins but no narrative to go with them....plus they let way way to many people in!!!!

Lovely day out in late September
Sep 2021 • Couples
Had a lovely day here yesterday- first time for about 5 years - and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The gardens and topiary were beautiful and we had a nice picnic down on the terrace at the lakeside. Despite having some mobility issues, we gamely claimed the steps up above the waterfall to enjoy the view down the Avenue to the castle. A few rests on benches along the way but very satisfying as likely unable to do this again due to forthcoming foot surgery. Coffee and cake taken on the way back. Coffee was superb as were the cakes - I had a vegan carrot cake. Hopefully we'll be able to return in 2023 after recuperation. We have always loved this place and even with covid there was nothing to detract from our visit. Even the toilets were spotlessly clean. Thanks for a lovely day out.
