About
Rob was employed by Max Schubert, father of Grange, at Penfolds back in 1969. Now Rob’s running the most elegant, surprising and creative wine secret in the Adelaide Hills with his own family, Heather, Lucy and Emma. It’s not quite like anything else. Part cellar door and part wine bar, Somerled opens til 7:30pm every night. Front and centre of their website sits their weekly blog. Have a look now! Rob’s elegant and clean sparklings and whites contrast superbly with his mature and complex aged reds. According to The Advertiser, Somerled shirazes are ‘as close to Grange as you’ll ever get’. Lucy and the Team offer half and full glasses over their long marble bar, bottles to share (and of course to take home for your cellar!) Nibbles are abundant: try the warm cheese puffs, French toasted sandwiches, their warm anchovy sticks and signature Spanish platters!

What a thoroughly enjoyable experience we had today at their Cellar Door in Hahndorf. We received a very warm welcome from Clinton and ordered a bottle of the 2023 Rosé and one of their delicious platters. People were popping in and out for tastings, just browsing or buying that special Christmas gift and it was a great way to spend a couple of hours on a chilly afternoon. Clinton was the perfect host and after lunch he gave us a tour of the Members Wine Room and we sampled some of their white and red wines. Absolutely a must visit venue for wine lovers when you are next in Hahndorf.

Just superb. Wines and tasting platters were exquisite...the staff, fireplace and cosy corners overlooking the autumn leaves in the wine garden even better. Quiet, cosy and so friendly...no blaring disco music.

This place is not to be missed, although I am reluctant to write a review as I don't want to miss out on some of the smaller batches due to increased popularity (no Rose left when were there on a cold and rainy Handorf day). The sparkling wine is a mousse-like mouth feel (not a "lemonade bubble" in site) and would give the likes of Pol Roger an excellent run for its money any day of the week ( I will be buying Australian only from now on). We tried everything on offer as it was too rainy to leave. Karen entertained us all throughout our long lunch - even telling us where we could buy the sumptuous pates and terrines from the platters... Next stop Willunga General Store.
I'd leave the warmth of Qld for this place alone!

Did the tasting on a Friday afternoon, it was such a great experience, would recommend to anyone visiting the region.
It is also a lovely spot for a glass of wine and to watch the main street.
Reserve Chardonnay was our pick!

RUN Rabbit RUN over the hills to Somerled Cellar Door and Bar….
Remembering those great afternoon visits with my friends from far and wide (when travel was allowed).
Amazing wines, yummy platters and nibbles (still dreaming of those cheese puffs and anchovy sticks).
Here in LOCKY ‘D Melbourne enjoying my Jockey Club wines and waiting for the border to open to run like a rabbit back to your Cellar Door with Sami Bear…
Very handy to be open every day till 7:30 pm every day!

When in Hahndorf, your first stop should be Somerled Wines. I could rabbit on for ages, but suffice to say it's a wonderful family owned winery, with an amazingly credentialled Winemaker and a small selection of truly excellant wines! It's a beautiful little Cellar Door and the family go out of their way to make you feel welcome. And, join their "Jockey Club" if you can... the wine packs are a very nice distraction in "lockdown".

Every now and then, you find that hidden gem! Upon a recommendation from Premium Wine Tours, I ventured to Main Street, Hahndorf with local friends in tow.
From the moment we stepped inside, it was like we went down a glorious rabbit hole. A mix of cosy corners, great merchandise and the most tasty wines. The place was full of locals telling great stories. We were instantly welcomed by the Moody family. The passion they shared over a bottle of bubbles was inspiring. We were instantly connected.
From that day in 2017, my Adelaide friends and I discuss our Jockey Club selection and try and reason ourselves out of buying our usual favourites.
Visiting the Moody’s is truly my number 1 activity when in Adelaide, never mind just Hahndorf. Even Delta Goodrem was there in on one of our last visits.
Do yourself a favour and pop in. Try the Rabbit Terrine if it hasn’t already sold out!

I was in Hahndorf for a weekend when I discovered the entrance to the most beautiful little wine bar! Entered, and it was a trip down the rabbit hole to discover the best tasting Shiraz in Australia, and I’ve been a member of the wine club ever since!

My significant other and I struck a deal when travelling through the picturesque Hahndorf. We can visit Somerled Wines for one of their remarkable cheese platters and a glass (or 2) of my most favourite Tempranillo, as long as we have some rabbit food for lunch prior. Deal! Do anything to visit this place. You won't be disappointed!
