We visited during the busy season. The tarn and hamlet of Watendlath were beautiful with lots of walking oportunities, including one from Ashness Bridge. We were however very disappointed with the prices in the cafe and the appearance of the food. Everything looked very basic...More

We stopped here after visiting Ashness Bridge and Surprise View calling at the National Trust cafe for cake and a pot of tea. Best part were the tits and robin hovering for crumbs, even eating out of my hand.

The road up is narrow and single track with passing places but it's well worth the drive, and it can be easily combined with stops at Ashness Bridge and Surprise View along the way. There's a National Trust car park at the top with toilets....More

Been many times. You can lark at various points and walk on he road or along the river to/ from the tarn, great views, dogs live dipping in the river. Some areas difficult if you are not strong footed. Little cafe at the tarn itself....More
