This place is breathtaking. If you are planning on reaching the top, go early in the morning. It takes longer because of the altitude, thus lack of oxygen. Take plenty of water and good hiking food. The top has very little oxygen, at least for...More

This was a last minute thing which I did with a friend who had found a local guide (we had to pay him the tickets there and back, and food). We took a bus to the ADO station early morning. Then another to Huamantla from...More

The Malinche Volcano is a somewhat difficult hike to get to the top. Four hour walk, 6 kilometres each way with 1.4 kilometers difference between the start of the hike and the top of the volcano. There is a camping area which is safe and...More

While not requiring any degree of technical ability, this really shouldn't be attempted by anyone without a moderate level of fitness. You are going to be tested physically. The climb is uphill all the way from the cabinas and is very steep in places. Altitude...More

To get to the trailhead, I took the combi (colectivo) from Apizaco (we were staying in Apizaco). The combi left at 8:20 AM outside of the Elektra store (ask where all the combis leave, it is a huge parking lot). The combi drops you off...More

Actual hike is easy, but coming from a lower altitude makes it hard for most visitors probably. It took us (30sh y old couple, normal physique) 2h to tree line and 2 to top. Was out of breath every 10 steps near the apex. Getting...More

It is a 30-40 minute ride from Huamantla center and it took us a little over 3 hours to reach the peak. That being said, I had no strength or cardio in about 2 years but I consider myself athletic. Be warned that there were...More

you can climb the malinche in a day. Last part is the toughest (arenal). Be aware that it can be rainy, windy, sunny all on one day. You can get up in 5 hrs and wlk down in 2-3.

Technically it's a very easy climb execpt maybe the last bit where you might have to scramble a bit over partially loose rock. You start the ascent at the centro vacacional malinzin. I recommend to go at a low but steady pace which allows you...More
