Spectacular views and a very well maintained trail. The Skyline Trail bit is very easy to access and the boardwalk at the end is very nicely maintained. It's a fair walk to see the view but worthwhile. The nearby Chemin du Buttereau is also pleasant and provides some local Acadian history.

Try the Skywalk Hike you won't be disappointed! October has been such a beautiful month to visit Cape Breton, great weather and fall foliage...so brilliantly coloured.

We really enjoyed this trail. What makes it special isn’t just the view at the top. The trail is beautifully designed. We did it counter clockwise and it took us 2 1/2 hours. We hiked late morning on Labour Day Monday and met only seven other hikers (and two. very happy dogs) along the way. This quiet hike allows one to listen to the birds, to the leaves rustling in the wind and to the brook on the way up. The view at the top is a treat for the eyes and on the way down we couldn’t help but notice the lovely smell of pine and fruit.

We wore our hiking shoes. People with weak ankles may prefer to wear hiking boots since there are a couple of rocky spots. The trail was a bit wet and muddy so I would not recommend running shoes. We noticed a couple of people using poles however we didn’t feel these were needed. Dress in layers, it’s a bit cool and windy at the top.

The Acadian trail is one of the most beautiful trails I've ever hiked in the northeast. It climbs to some outstanding viewpoints over the coast to north and west, and descends through a lovely small valley alongside a cascading stream. (Of course can be hiked in opposite direction!) (Forked) trailheads are at the visitor center and in the campground. I enjoyed it more than the extremely busy Skyline trail.

Trail heads area little hard to find. They’re across the road from the info centre and at the top of the parking lot, walk past the campers for a few minutes.
I recommend going counter clockwise. You’ll be sucking wind for the first 20 minutes or so, but the other side would be harder. There are a number of look offs on the opposite side, one is the the iconic Adirondack chair.

I hiked this trail for the first time Thanksgiving weekend while staying in Cheticamp. I have hiked numerous trails, many in the park including the Skyline and this is my favourite to date. Although the Skyline has nice views, it lacked character for us and was too well groomed. This hike has everything - stunning views with well established look off points, beautiful trees, a Brook, bridges, etc. It was approx 8.4 km, and we hiked the trail from the left as it’s a loop. It took approx 3 hrs with us making a number of stops for pics etc. I recommend doing it from the left based on the views and it seemed the right side had more stumps and rocks which we found easier for the decent down.

I highly recommend this trail and much preferred it to the Skyline. It’s located at the entrance of the trail in Cheticamp in by the visitor centre. I recommend going early for parking and to have some privacy on the trail, although it was not as busy as the Skyline. Also, although this trail is at a high elevation, it is a gradual climb so not too bad.

If you are looking for a great trail this is the one for you. There are a lot of hills and very remote but had stunning views. Give yourself at least 5 hours. You go up one side walk along the mountain then come back along the other side following an stream back into the campground.

Being right next to the Visitor Centre and campground, this is the most convenient of the hiking trails in this area. But it is also a stunning experience, and we like it a bit more than the more famous and visited Skyline Trail. The views from the top are just as expansive, and the part that follows the creek up to the top is through beautiful lush forest. We consulted at the Visitor Centre, and they recommended doing the loop counter clockwise, starting at the drainage, following it up, then descending down the ridge. Quite a few were doing it in the opposite direction, but we agree with the staff, counter clockwise is the way to go. It's not the easiest hike in the world, as it does climb, but we think it would be manageable by most people given time, patience, and no medical issues.
