The Hiscock House is one of the museums you can see when you purchase a pass at the visitors centre. We had a guided tour with an interpreter and found the history of the house and family fascinating. Well would your effort to see.

We wouldn't have realized this building was worth going into if we hadn't gone into the gift shop attached to it. The lady in the gift shop told us to make sure to go next door between 2:30 and 4:30 because they were giving out a Newfoundland treat.
Normally, it would cost to go through the house, but it was free the whole week we were in town because of being Truth and Reconciliation week.
It is a historical house belonging to a woman and her family that lived here in the 1800's. There is a room full of information when you first come in, then you go into the kitchen where you can receive a different Newfoundland treat each day if you come between 2:30 and 4:30. The first day we were there, we sampled cod cakes and partridge berry pickles. (We came back the next day and sampled pork toutons (pork buns). The food was very good both days.
Then you can get a tour of the house with a guide that will give you loads of history of the family that lived there. In one room you can even dress up in clothing from the era.
The guides, Margo, Bonnie and Dennis, were great. They gave us so much information and were so friendly.

The tour of the Hiscock house was the highlight of our visit to Trinity. The interpreter, Bonnie, was hilarious and painted a vivid picture of life in Trinity. I was amazed by the ingenuity and resourcefulness of the owner--a woman ahead of her time. Worth a visit for sure.

Lots of room to explore in this old house. Interesting to see all the household items from days gone by. Loved the bedroom upstairs with clothes and hats you can dress up in. Wonderful photo opportunity.

History of this property is amazing all documented and displayed throughout the house. The garden next door and clothes on the line are priceless! Emma Hiscock moved into er new house as a bride and named it "Mountain Ash Villa" for the tree she planted by the door. Just a few years later she was left a widow with six children. Shop-keeper, postmistress, landlady.....emma was the Woman!

This was my favourite house of all on the site, I found the whole thing inspiring as the lady who lived here was such an entrepreneur and an inspiration to women. Loved the way that the house has been set around the early 20th century with some of the furniture the original. The guide was so interesting showing real passion for the history of the property. Loved this place and a real must for visitors to see.

Hiscock House is a beautifully preserved property located in the heart of Trinity. Lots of antique furniture contained inside (some original to the house, others contemporary) + great guides to help explain the background/context of the house and its rooms. Note that admission to Hiscock House is included with the provincial pass, which allows access to multiple cool sites around Newfoundland (e.g. Cupids Plantation, Newman Vaults in St. John's etc.)

My wife and I had never heard of Trinity until we were researching what to do around Clarenville. We gathered it might have some interesting historical resonance and decided to drop in on our way to Bonavista. Our sole regret: not allowing sufficient time. It was fascinating and has played a significant part in the early development of Canada. There are old stores from the 18th century, restored buildings (including a Georgian design of house matching one in England), a cooper's shop for barrel making, a forge and many other interesting exhibits including the first court of law in North America. If you have teenagers who want action rather than history, book them in with Trinity Eco-tours while you walk round the settlement. The Hiscock House gives real insight into one of the principal early families here and the determination and resilience of its womenfolk. Highly recommended. We learnt a lot.

We really enjoyed this house tour. The tour guide is very friendly and shares lots of information about the house, family and era. Lots of enthusiasm. One of the nicest house tours I've had. Good set up!
