Perfect hike/ walk for a power walk. Wish there were BR’s half way... not allowed to use BR at restaurant so needless to say did not go there for lunch...

A very easy, flat walk along the coast from Bonavista to the lighthouse. Lovely scenery, albeit unspectacular. Unfortunately the trail is alongside the road a lot of the time, so one sees little more than one would from a car, and there is no feeling of 'otherworldliness'.

A walking trail along a magnificent shoreline. For an average walker, the trail can be walked in 45 minutes one way or one and a half hours return trip, beginning at the parking area and ending at the John Cabot statue. However, this trail can be accessed at many points along the way, allowing the hiker to plan a custom walk to suit a certain length of time and/or choice of scenery. One important tip: pick a day when there isn't much wind. The winds can be very severe and cold at times in this area, and hiking the trail on such a day would not be a pleasant experience. The shoreline here is quite rugged with much to see including various sea birds, whales in summer, small islands offshore, and some boats of various sizes.

Somehow I missed any write ups on this trail, instead I set out to visit the lighthouse which was closed for the season. The trails snake around the side of the lighthouse providing fantastic views of cliffs, breaking waves, and commanding rocks. My favorite memory is looking down, through binoculars onto the flying Northern Gannets. These are a large, crisp and pretty bird which are interesting to watch fishing. The trails were also dusted with flocks of busy snow buntings, a pretty song bird. Most of the trail is very easy, there are a few spots that may be a challenge for those who are uncomfortable on uneven surfaces, but they are optional spurs. If the lighthouse is closed then the nearest washroom would be the outhouses (or long drops) in the lower parking lot, maybe 5 minute walk from the lighthouse parking lot.

Walking this trail is for those who have no difficulty walking. It has some beautiful views but is a rugged trail. It is about 7 km. Bonavista Bay can be seen

This is a 3-kilometre trail that follows the coastline up to the lighthouse at Cape Bonavista. The scenery is beautiful with plenty of rocky shores, crashing waves and ocean views. The trail is rated "Easy" which is accurate. The pathway is well marked and well maintained and there is little to no incline. It's in a very open area that stays mostly within view of the road going out to the Cape.

Depending on the time of year, it's likely to be a good opportunity to view icebergs or whales. Up by the lighthouse, there's a good chance to see puffins - again, depending on the time of year.

We walked as far as the restaurant and the Fish Flakes. This was an out and back hike on well maintained trails.

Very nice hike along the coast, great views over the ocean, fresh breeze. The only downside is that the road runs right next to it.

You have beautiful views no matter what the weather. Lots to do no matter what you are looking for. Trails for the walkers and museums for those who like that. Always something to look at. Worth the trip.
