The Ryan Premises is a fantastic museum of the fishing industry in Newfoundland and Labrador over the last 500 years. A former fish mercantile and home to the proprietor the exhibits tell a wonderful story of the hardships and challenges of fishing and surfing in the is rugged land. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and definite must with kids, lots of interactive activities for them.

Very informative site about the fishing industry and life in the early years of Newfoundland. Unfortunately it was a cold day and there is very little heat in these buildings, so we all were cold. They also don't have everything open yet due to a lack of staff.

Stumbled upon this museum and glad we did. Only $4.25 to get in and there are four buildings with interesting artifacts from the fishing and sealing operations. Lots of information about what life was like for people during those times. Took about an hour to visit.

This is a great place to learn about the cod fishery and the sealing industry as well as Bonavista itself. Such a wealth of information! Wonderful displays. People at the museum and the adjacent general store were super friendly and helpful.

Interesting and well set out museum about cod and cod fishing. It is easily reached from Trinity. Many artefacts to be seen. The staff were friendly and informative. We combined this visit with the trail to Elliston Point, a cliff top path, to see hundreds of nesting puffins.

If I could rate this higher, I would. Managed by Parks Canada this might be an easy attraction to overlook because the name is a bit odd but it is a must-see! Provides a fantastic overview of the history of cod fisheries and lifestyle of the people. The guides are absolutely wonderful. So knowledgeable and passionate. Natasha and Rick made the experience extra special. This was one of the great highlights of our trip to Newfoundland.

A well set up museum for the history of the fishing industry in BonaVista and Newfoundland. Did not see the entire site due to limited time on the bus tour. What we did see was well done. Tour guides very enthusiastic, ask for the demo on how to filet the codfish, fun!
The merchant’s home is only partly finished but it is worth a look. A very quaint town to visit after the tour around the point and lighthouse. A true picture of how life is in Newfoundland.

Wing Commander received free passes in 2017 for our Centennial.
BUT because we travel on shoulder season we passed Parks Canada sites continually that were NOT open for the season.
So ... we like monkeys we purchased passes in 2018 to do the Parks Canada sites on our late May trip to Newfoundland.
Waste of money ...
Points of argument;
- The Artisan Inn in Trinity had a full dinner seating.
- The Bonavista Social Club was busy busy.
- All Newfoundland heritage sites are open.
So why are the Parks Canada sites closed????

We were taken to this attraction by our tour group.
The Ryan Premises tells the story of the fishing and seal industry. The exhibits are broken up into four buildings plus Mr. Ryan's house, which is across the street.
The buildings house some really nice exhibits, with some being interactive. The house, although nice for its time, was not furnished except for one room.
Guides were knowledgeable in answering questions. It's a nice stop if in the area.

When you consider the time, the collection of buildings that were owned by one person was huge! We didn't visit them all, too many for the time we had. We visited the shop and the warehouse behind where the fish was received and weighted. Lots of information about fishing and life in Bonavista 100 years ago, it was very interesting to hear about the fishermen and all the industries that developed to support them - boat building, grocery store, shoe makers, clothing, carpentry, etc., etc.
