Amazing customer service! The owner/captain didn't have the minimum 4 people to take out for the boat tour, and since we were in Bonavista and this was one of the highlights of our trip he still offered to take us at a slightly increased rate for the 2 of us.

Once on the water we found a group of Fin whales (approx 5) within minutes, we hung around them (within 10-15 feet) for approx 20 minutes, however he was quick to note that he wanted us to see Humpbacks, and he wanted us to see a breech. We then left and even though the humpbacks that he had seen the day before had moved locations we still located them within about 30 minutes. We stayed around several groups of humpbacks then for somewhere around 1.5-2 hours (20+ whales). We witnessed these monsters breaking the surface for that entire duration, with massive tail slaps, whales coming within 5-10 feet of the boat, and we did indeed see one massive breech like he had wanted us to see, an amazing experience!

All the while we hung around these massive humpbacks we went in through many large rocks and “skyscrapers” along the Trinity bay coast. Due to the size of the zodiac we could essentially go everywhere.

The next time I visit Bonavista I will certainly do this again and I encourage everyone to try the ”small” zodiac, such an up close experience, with a small group of people. Due to the zodiacs size and power you can cover much more ground in the same time as the other larger boats and access many areas others cannot (such as the “Skyscrapers”).

12/10 in our books!

Discovery Sea Adventures was hands down the best tour we did during our visit to Newfoundland this summer. The stars of the show were the 8 to 10 humpback whales that breached the surface to show off for us. It was one of the most awe inspiring thing we have ever seen in nature.
However, we also cannot say enough about Captain Bob. He was friendly and professional and it was clear that you were safe in his experienced hands on the water. A lot of the charm of the excursion was how excited Bob was with each whale sighting and how he was genuinely thrilled to be offering us this unforgettable experience.
While no tour can guarantee whale sightings, if whales are surfacing Captain Bob will find them and make sure everyone on the boat has a front row seat. We have been on larger boats to see whales in the past, but you have to experience a whale tour in a Zodiac where you are close to the water. This is a reasonably priced tour you have to do if you are lucky enough to be visiting beautiful Bonavista!

I cannot say enough about our zodiac tour out with Bob this week. It was one of those days where you have to stop and really appreciate what you get to experience.
We went out on the 1pm tour and within minutes we could see whales spouting. You can tell that Bob really loves what he does and wants his guests to have the best experience possible....and we did! The whales put on an incredible show everywhere we looked and Bob was cautious and informative at the same time. I could have stayed out there all day watching the whales and will definitely be back again. Best money I have spent this year.

I am quite afraid of the open water but wanted to accompany my husband on this trip. It was the first time in my life I was not afraid of being in a boat and we were just a foot above it. The reason? Captain Bob! He was fantastic and I had complete confidence in him. He really knew how to read the water and even though it was the end of the season he found 2 humpbacks which we followed for about 40 minutes. Bob is so knowledgeable and full of stories about the area and the different landscape. I would HIGHLY recommend to not do any other tour in Bonavista.

This is the MUST-DO excursion on the Bonavista Peninsula. Once you have taken a Zodiak tour, you may never want to get in a 'boat' again. Smoothest, most stable ride ever with speeds that may look intimidating but are truly an amazing experience. My friend was very reluctant to try the Zodiak. She was worried about "safety"...but not anymore; she said it was truly the most comfortable, pleasurable ride she has ever had on the open ocean. She never felt safer.
Captain Bob is a fantastic host and guide and will do his best to ensure you get a good look at the gentle giants of the sea. While we were not lucky enough to capture the "full body breaches" by the whales that so many of Captain Bob's passengers have been fortunate to experience, we saw plenty of whale action; up close and personal. Lots of whale tails and fins for those who want that picture perfect moment.
And let's not forget the famous puffins. One of the cutest creatures ever, Captain Bob ensures you have many opportunities to see them nesting in the stunning cliffs along the breathtaking shoreline.
The "bonus" activity for me on this tour, was zipping in and around some the most spectacular rock formations and caves along the shoreline. The scenery is breathtaking and even more amazing than the many stunning views that you experience walking along the shoreline.
FIVE STARS hands down; worth every single penny and more . Hope to get back again to see those magnificent creatures that we are truly blessed to have visit our shores. Thanks gain Captain Bob :)

The whale watching tour on the zodiac with Captain Bob in Bonavista was the best whale watching tour I ever did. Two humpback whales put on a real show for us, swimming beside and under the boat for at least 20 minutes. Both whales seemed to enjoy checking us out while we loved watching them. Captain Bob also showed us the beautiful cliffs including sea arches and caves at Spillars Cove and puffins in Elliston. Captain Bob is the best!

I have been on alot of boat tours in my day but NOTHING comes close to what Bob provides. You can tell that he loves what he does and loves to share it with the world. The Whales, The Sea Caves, The Sea Birds and the landscape will leave you in awe and thinking “is this really happening?”
The zodiac boat can get you into the most incredible places and the fact that it’s a small fast vessel without the rocking of a big boat allows even those that get a little motion sick on a regular basis to venture out.
Bob treats you like a friend from the moment you meet him until the time you drive away which is special in itself. I can’t recommend this boat tour enough and will return time and time again when in the Bonavista area as it is never the same tour twice!

My partner and i were looking for a zodiac whale watching tour in Bonavista. Luckily we chose Discovery Adventure Tours. Bob Currie was a friendly and knowledgeable guide. We were witness to a humpback whale slap its head on the water half a dozen times, breach that many times and then come to within 30 feet of the boat and wave to us 4 or 5 times! I swear that whale was having as much fun as we were! It was quite remarkable! Bob then took us on a scenic tour of the breathtakingly beautiful coastline around the area. We thorough enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend Discovery Sea Adventures.

Our experience was fantastic.
Robert welcomed us warmly and helped all of us with our suits.
It was a windy day and the waves were choppy but this added to the exhilaration of the trip as we scudded across the sea. We saw frozen iceberg fields, puffins and best of all two whales which breached three times. Thanks for the experience of a lifetime!!

As a photographer I was just blown away on my first zodiac adventure with Captain Bob. This would have not been possible without Michael Winsor of Newfoundland Photo Tours. He just knew where and when to go. He booked myself and my 2 photographer friends with Discovery Sea Adventures. It went so well that we booked 3 more outings with Discovery Sea Adventure and Captain Bob. Bob knew where the whales were, he took us to caves with interesting rock formations and birds. The best part for us we saw so many breaching whales on all 4 days. One day there were whales breaching for 2 hours non-stop (never seen before). I highly recommend Discovery Sea Adventure.
