I recommend a tour of the York Courthouse complex to get some insight into York's early colonial history. Housing some of the earliest buildings in Western Australia, it is well worth spending an hour or two there.

Hello Jenny. Glad you enjoyed your visit to York Courthouse Complex. It gives a fascinating insight into the highs and lows of criminal justice in regional WA from colonial times right through into the 20th century.

This is an amazing complex that really makes you appreciate the past and the present. Well done to the National Trust and the township of York for preserving this National Treasure. A must see when in the area.

The old courthouse sand jail have been preserved and are open to the public. A quaint video addresses the restoration process. We spent about 90 minutes walking through. Preserved prisons' graffiti is worth spending time reading. Some dark times here.

This is well worth viewing. Authentic history here, some of it (the cells) quite confronting. Good to see this kind of history preserved.

This courthouse complex was run by very enthusiastic volunteers who are local. They are keen to retell local stories. Most of these stories are quite sad, and if you are in touch with the other planes, it's probably not the best place to go. History...More
