We decided to buy the tickets for the Favignana-Levanzo tour with Egadi the night before, simply because it was the first one we saw, and we thought the price was good for two islands, especially including lunch. We got to the port at around 9:05 and had forgotten our vouchers, but the lady from the company remembered us and gave us new vouchers. The boat was spacious and there were many empty sits on both floors. We got on the upper deck and the boat departed on time for Favignana. On the way there, Yulia the photographer came to the upper deck and started taking pictures of everybody, giving them a sailor cap to put on for some pictures. Her beauty and bubbliness make it a pleasure to play along. She was absolutely lovely. In Favignana, you get two hours to explore the island, which is not enough for the size of the island (36 km2) if you want to see most of the highlights. We rented bicycles for 3 €/person and rode to Cala Rossa and Cala Azzurra. The town is perfect for a nice bike ride in the summer since there is almost no traffic, the houses are pretty and there is plenty of vegetation. It is like a small island paradise that makes you wonder if you could stay and live there. Cala Rossa has no sand, but it is perfect for a good swim, with plenty of fish to see and things to explore, which is why many boats anchor around 100-200 m from the coast. I probably swam around 500 meters around the rocky coast, and besides fish, I saw caves and what are probably remains of ancient civilizations. In Cala Azzurra, we didn’t have time to swim since we had to get back to the boat urgently and had to pedal very fast to get there on time. The boat had to drop the bridge again in order for us to get in, and they were cool about it. On the other side of Favignana, the ship stops somewhere for people to swim around for a while and snorkel, but they don’t lend you equipment. Yulia said there’s supposed to be plenty of things to see in the water, but we were not lucky. The water is also colder than on the beach. Afterward, they serve lunch, for which you get a small sandwich, which was terrible. It had tomato and one sardine, and I didn’t like the bread. The pasta was ok. On the way to Levanzo, we had rough waters, which made the trip more fun for me, although a couple of people felt sick on the back deck. Levanzo is beautiful with its mountainous landscape and coastline. The best part is that it looks unexploited by tourists, unlike Favignana. You will barely see anyone when going on the trail up the mountain. After about an hour and a half, you have to get back on the boat to get back to Trapani, at which point I discovered that the boat had a front deck where you can sit, which is where you will get the best views of the coastlines.

I just returned from this trip that can only be described as prison at sea. The stop in Favignana was too short to do anything worthwhile (2 hours), I was excited about exploring Cala Rossa but we never actually stopped at the shore. Instead we had to literally jump ship and got 15 minutes only to swim before being served the worst lunch of my entire life; badly boiled pasta, a sandwich with one slice of tomato and a sardine, and a plum for dessert. The whole ordeal took over an hour and no one was allowed to leave the ferry to swim or explore during that time. After that we stopped in Levanzo for 45 minutes (again, too short to do or see anything) and then returned home. The seating on the ferry was extremely uncomfortable, the floors were dirty as hell, everything was served on plastic dishes, cups and cutlery and we spent way more time on the disgusting boat than exploring anything. I wasn't expecting anything luxurious for this price but I would pay double to be able to take back the time I spent on this horrible journey, after which I'm not even in the mood to go out and get dinner or walk around lovely San Vito Lo Capo. I just want to go to sleep and forget this ever happened. The only good thing I have too say about this excursion is that the staff was friendly and professional but that hardly makes up for a ruined day.

We did a family boat tour of Trapani with several stops for ocean swimming. Water was cold but very clean and clear. Capitano Mario was incredible! And crew of 3 was amazing! Grazie Giovanni, Coco, and especially Sara (che Bella!) Crew of 4 for a family of 8. Ask for these people. They will treat you right!
