Had a wonderful experience renting 2 sup boards. Staff super accommodating for pick up and drop off. Highly recommend and will be using them each year for our rental needs.

I have rented SUP's from them for several years. They deliver the board to you and pick it up at the end of your stay. Very nice folks. We will be back!

Nice Staff

Nice staff, convenient location. Bike rental was pricey compared to others in the area for an older beach cruiser. Will probably go down the road next time to save $20 per bike for a week

We love going to Hatteras but I have always wanted to go clamming but didn’t have equipment until we stopped at Austin’s. Not only were we able to get equipment at a reasonable price but got an impromptu lesson on how to clam and where to go. I’m happy to say that we followed his advice and got 130 clams that we steamed that night.

I have stopped here many times to just check out the sale or get a needed piece of bike equipment.(they were the only ones who sold my size bike tube on a Sunday .) I had wanted to kayak for sometime and this seemed to be it. The staff was very patient and helpful. They, and the rest of the island were having trouble with there card readers and this was one of those times cash said it a little faster. A truly great tour and day cant wait to do it all over again

Was in Hatteras for a family vacay and really wanted to go kayaking. Chose A.S. Austin for the close proximity and good reviews, as well as the friendliness and local knowledge imparted to me over the phone. The owners are very laid back and sweet, super helpful, and were very appreciative of our business. My niece is 13, had never kayaked, and we had a marvelous trip through Slash Creek, Pamlico Sound, and Muddy Creek. Faceplant Bridge is aptly named, btw. Watch your head ha! When I return to Hatteras, I'll most definitely patronize this lovely little establishment again.

Excellent staff--Eddie's the man!

I wanted to do some surf and pier fishing during a week-long trip. I Googled "fishing equipment near Hatteras" and was excited to see that A.S. Austin was exactly one mile from the cabana my wife and I were staying in. I woke up Monday morning excited to get my gear, only to be told that Eddie was gone and that it might be a couple of hours before he got back. I was a little bummed, but I used the time to go get my fishing license and some other things. When I came back, Eddie was back from delivering some equipment to another customer. I didn't know they did delivery, and especially something that would take that long! He grabbed a rod, and let me help him get in shape--rinsed it out, oiled it up, and rig it. It wasn't an in-and-out endeavor, but everything runs slow out here and I like that. Gave me some free pre-snelled hooks and a sand spike to boot!

I will get a shirt/hat before leaving here this week so I can rep this company--the staff were friendly and made me feel like family. Definitely worth the wait, and the price can't be beat.

No need to look elsewhere

We rented kayaks and took one of the kayak tours. Our group size for the tour and needs changed frequently and they were very accommodating. Eddie went above and beyond the call during our tour.
Their equipment was plentiful, good quality and good variety.
We found everyone more than friendly and helpful.
There is no comparison to other places we or friends have used in the past. Although we were close, we would readily drive here in the future.
You won't be disappointed.

SUP for beginners
Aug 2016 • Family
We rented 2 SUP boards for an hour. It was me and my 10 year old daughter. They have a put in right by the shop, and it's in a pretty protected area, so not too windy. Note that the Buxton location does not have a put in, so you will need to transport the equipment yourself from that location. Prices were reasonable, everyone was super friendly, they have us advice on where to go.

I have fun with SUP, but I find it less ideal for longer distances and real nature tours, because there is really no place to put water, unless you have a camel back. Also difficult to carry any snacks. But I find it a lot of fun for about an hour. If you have water shoes, wear them, in case you fall off into the sound( Not just me that happens to, right?)

Staff was waiting but the put in when we got back. It was easy and fun. Really pretty area to wander through.
