I went to the Battle for Kyiv museum with friends on a recent Saturday morning. It was a great experience and I'm glad we went.

The museum and adjoining grounds had striking Soviet-era monuments and architecture, a surprisingly good collection of artifacts from the battle, and very friendly staff.

I particularly liked the displays of everyday objects carried by the soldiers who fought in and around Novi Petrivtsi: dining utensils, writing implements, etc. These helped to imagine the people behind the battle on a human level.

Don't miss the outdoor displays of military hardware or the imposing memorial to the Soviet fallen that is on site. There is also a trench network to give you a rough idea of conditions in 1943.

While public transit options aren't the easiest from Kyiv to get to this museum, there is a bus stop right outside for a line that runs to Kyiv. Also, Uber is now operational around Kyiv and rides to the museum are pretty economical.

I really enjoyed this museum and think that anyone with even a passing interest in history would as well. It's easily worth an hour of your time. Highly recommended!

This place was much more than I had anticipated. A 3 floored museum with many exhibitions, walking trails with trenches and bunkers, numerous field cannons, and 4 tanks. They even had 2 German 88mm anti-tank guns! It wasn't far outside of Kiev. And I definitely thought it was worth a trip.

This is out of town a ways and not readily accessible by public transit. It is more a memorial than a museum, although there are a number of interesting exhibits and a nicely done diorama. Your visit will be accompanied by a soundtrack of patriotic songs.
