If you don’t know the track you could probably easily get lost - it’s all pretty confusing. Not well maintained once you get past the first part. We turned back after 5 minutes and walked along the main road.

Those are the walks we really like and why we came to NZ for. Take your time and enjoy the environment. What you see by your self is not what you may show on pictures. Go for it.

This is a short walk with interest. Great view from the top. Easy to do there and back with options to walk other tracks.

This is just a short walk that I took from Purangi Rd marked as the Maramaratotora Track. Mainly it’s up steps from that side leading to a viewing platform. Down the other side towards Ferry Landing is a bit difficult as you have to pick your way over tree roots, steep and precarious in places. This would be difficult for young children and less able adults. The whole walk takes approx 30-40 minutes but was worth it, and fabulous views of Whitianga

This is an interesting, historic walk/climb. It is steep in places with some staircases and some steps carved out of the rock. There are some steep drop offs on either side, so for those like me who don’t have a head for heights, it can be a problem. The track is not well sign posted nor is it in good condition. The track to Maramaratotara Bay was unclear. The views on the short 400m walk are well worth seeing.

From Ferry Landing Wharf, we followed the path uphill via a number of staircases and narrow bush tracks to our final destination to be sitting on top of Whitianga Rock, it took no longer than ten minutes. From here there are nice views over to Whitianga and on the other side of the rock, the Scenic and Historic Reserve of Ferry Landing. Half-way along the track you pass through the former site of the Whitianga Pa which is worth stopping at and reading some of the interesting facts on the information boards about this historical site.

We took the ferry from Whitianga and did a number of walks. There is a bit of climbing involved, but views are wonderful.

A short but good workout for awesome views whatever the weather. Ferry ride a nice bonus across the water from Whitianga harbour to access walk.

VERY poorly signposted - I walked up a STEEP and not terribly safe hill and it wasn't until I was back at the hotel that I realised that I should have gone the other way to see what I wanted to see. A pity - the region features so much that IS well signposted etc but this has been neglected.
