I gave this 4 stars because of the quokkas we met on our way up to the lighthouse. Even though the lighthouse is the highest point of the island, view of the coast is not that great. There’s a small exhibit in a rock house next to the lighthouse. My friends joined a tour up the lighthouse. At the moment there’s no charge because some part is closed for maintenance.

Views from the base of the lighthouse are beautiful and worth a walk or bike ride up from the jetty. Beautiful blue waters.

The Rottnest Island Light Station is a fantastic example of early architecture and engineering. We loved sitting at the base looking out over the water that it patrols.

Wadjemup Lighthouse is the tallest point on Rottnest Island. It is acclaimed as an engineering masterpiece. Construction, in 1896, was overseen by the legendary civil engineer CY O'Connor. Rottnest is 19 km (12 miles) from Fremantle. Rottnest is usually the first sight of land by ships coming from the West. It's a moderate bicycle ride from Thompsons Bay.

But it’s just a lighthouse. You can’t go up but the view from the base is good. A few mins walk from the village so of course you will go.

Don't get to excited, the Lighthouse must be undergoing some major renovations as it is completely covered and unrecognisable at present.

The original lighthouse was established in 1849. It is the highest point on Rottnest Island. The lifghthouse was intended to guide ships to Fremantle, port for the Swan River colony, which was established in 1829. The second lighthouse was established in 1896, and still functions; it's 39 metres (127 feet) tall' The Wadjemup Lighthouse has been the destinaion of many bicycle ride, it's worth the trip.

Nice little lighthouse on Rotto! Lot of history around the island and the lighthouse. A must visit when visiting Rottnest.

Wadjemup Lighthouse is great to cycle to at night to see the eight beams of light spin around. I took a couple of teenage kids, they loved the adventure. But watch out for the Quokkas at night!

Lovely Rottnest volunteer guides gave us an excellent tour of the lighthouse and the surrounding area. Very reasonably priced ($9 for adults, less for kids/students) and card payment available. Tours run up until 3pm each day (last tour leaving at 2.30).

Hi. I will likely take the Explorer Bus when on Rottnest and was wondering about how long of a walk it is from the bus stop up to the lighthouse. Can anyone estimate the time it might take me? I'm not the most physically fit, but basically have good health and weight, and walk at a moderate pace. Are we talking about a 5 minute walk perhaps, or 10, or even 15? And obviously I guess going back down would be less!

To walk up to the lighthouse might take 15 minutes from the bus stop, look out for the quokkas that can sometimes be found in the shade of the trees on the left side of the path up to the lighthouse

How long does it take to ride a bike from Pedal and Flipper Hire's location on the island to Wadjemup Lighthouse? And is the terrain inbetween flat or steep? Do you need to be very fit to ride a bike there and back?

Half an hour I would say, maybe longer if you stop and look on the way.
Yes, there are a few uphill sections, but nothing too taxing. Hardest part is towards the end and that was where I had to get off and push my bike.

Hi, may I know how long or how difficult the walk is from the nearest Island Explorer bus stop up to the lighthouse? Thank you!

It's a bit of a walk from the bus, but once there you can sit and grab a drink from a van. Walk approx 10mins, but a steep walk
