Great Recreational options
Sep 2020
Depending on your age and level of fitness, there are a variety of recreational options, walking trails and places to just park and admire the waterway. We enjoyed views in various locations along Greenough River Road. At 2.40pm it felt as if we were alone in the world, no one else in sight, wind whipped but enjoying the scenery. Some great locations to enjoy a picnic

Stunning winter day walk
Jul 2019 • Family
What a lovely trail! The entire trail is a 12km loop, but we only had time for part of the trail, so we started halfway one side of the river, and walked to the ocean and back. Beautiful views of the river, and the ocean area is very pretty too (not very safe for swimming though, by the looks of things, although a couple of surfers were out). Several gazebos and picnic benches along the way also help. Fantastic trail, with both the river and the ocean to enjoy.

Beautifull spot

Very tranquil and the river is surprisingly longer than envisaged as we took the track that follows it along its meandering upper reaches, wish we had a canoe ;)

Fishing closed on the river as at 09/18

Greenough River Waigen Lakes. Beautiful spot but the river was closed for fishing or swimming. Signs advising of safety risk. The beach was nice but wasnt a good day for fishing.

Greenough River Trail
May 2018 • Solo
The Greenough River lies south of Geraldton WA. A great way to view the river is to walk or cycle the Greenough River Nature Walk Trail. For 17km the trail loops around the river. Look for the abundant Birdlife.

Lovely Picnic Area.
Aug 2017 • Friends
The Greenough river is one that originate many miles inland and for most of the time is dry except for a portion close to the ocean. The mouth of the river is basically a sand bar and is only able to open when the region received substantial cyclonic rain inland.
For the summer period it is a great place for picnics, exploring and fishing both off the beach and in the river.
The only downfall sometimes is the wind.
Only some 15klms from the City of Geraldton this place is a great family spot.

Great place to go crabbing/fishing or relax
Jan 2017 • Friends
This is a great area to enjoy catching crabs and fishing or swimming in the shallows near the mouth of the river. Most times the river is closed off and only in a big rain in winter does the river open up. You can use trail bikes and four wheel dives in the area. Great for the family to enjoy the river
