Beer and books, with a tough of history
Jan 2020
To stand at the bar and drink a beer in what is the quaintest and one of the oldest pubs I have enjoyed, was just fantastic. The service was as quaint as the pub and the bar does not contain fancy pumps, just bottled beer from a chilled fridge. And, I found a Lee Child I did not own.

Quirky and quaint

We visited here for lunch on a Saturday. This place is set in a tumbledown hotel that doubles as a bookshop. The meals were hearty and our elderly hosts very friendly and chatty. I think this place has seen better days. There is memorabilia on the walls and we were serenaded by Bob Dylan tunes and smooched by the resident cats. An amazing collection of books in a room held together by cobwebs.

Jan & Jas weekend getaway

We had a fun, relaxed weekend and were made to feel so welcome, by the manager Linda, surprising us with a bottle of complimentary champagne ;) plus a continental breakfast included, with the cost of room.
The book shop is a lovely way to relax after dinner, by the fire and the collection is exceptional ! , also available for purchase.
If you enjoy quirky with a lot of history, then this is a great place to visit !!!!

Lovely quirky peaceful little pub where you can get a quiet drink and shut out the world and all your troubles in the shelves of wonderful books. Great company and service. A little hidden gem to be visited when in the area.

Ordinary at best

I felt I needed a shower after visiting. Not many pubs where I didn’t even think having a drink was safe

Rustic and lovely

Rugged little old pub, full of character. Not twee, but so much personality! Staff so friendly and willing to do anything to assist. Books were a nice touch - quirky. We loved it. It's not what you expect it to be, but it's worth a look. We also really enjoyed our meals - lentil & spinach patties were great!

Historic Pub, but needs some more love.

Lovely stop over for the night. The place needs some love and would be fantastic to see it in it's former glory. The owners were in the process of painting it all up when we were there earlier this year. The book store was great and could have lost me there for days, sitting in the comfy couch reading with a coffee.

Lovely historic pub

We visited mid week after a morning spent in the historic settlement which this Inn had been a part of. Sadly no food is available during the week, but the atmosphere was good due to the age and quirkiness of the place. The 8000+ books were amazing to see. The place is up for sale as the owners are retiring. What a fantastic place to buy for $1.5 million with 12 acres of land.

We were told about this Inn by a fellow holiday maker and as it was on the way, we decided to drop in.

It looks like time has stopped for this historical Inn. It was very quiet except for the sound of birds and if it hadn't been for the "open" sign we wouldn't have thought it was open.
The paint is peeling, the windows are dusty but it all adds to the mysterious appeal.

Upon stepping into the entry I was captivated by all the books that could be seen in the adjoining library. In this room was a large open fire place, it all looked so old, but that was part of the charm I thought. We grabbed a drink from the bar and spent about half an hour looking through the hundreds of books, which are for sale. Some of the books are very old, one I came across was 110. There are also a lot of new books. No children's books though that I could see.

I would have loved to stay longer but the children were getting restless so we had to go. It would be nice to go back for lunch and have another dig around the rooms in search of my next novel to read.

The owners were lovely to chat with as well.

I think this old gem is worth a look at. The Pioneer Museum isn't far away either.

Pub + bookshop

Hampton Arms Inn is Western Australia heaven... Historic inn with a #bookshop which has a dedicated cookbooks room & pub camping @ $10 per night. Basic but clean toliets with soap and paper towel. Loved it. Great Friday night fish & chips. Friendly hosts.
