About
This is more than a traditional museum! It is an inter-active museum set in a 19th century homestead surrounded by beautiful gardens. Discover more about the social history of Greenough from Aboriginal times to today. Marvel at the preserved curios of family life in the spacious kitchen. Take a selfie in period costume. Sit and ponder on the Double Dunny. Wander through Elizabeth's Garden and the Veggie garden. Hug what could be Australia's oldest leaning gum tree.

A Worthwhile Exhibit
Sep 2021
I thought this was an excellent exhibit, it was well maintained and there was heaps of information around the various rooms including items on show some of which were originally from this home. The volunteer on duty was most helpful and passionate about the building.

Just went to visit and the cafe was flat out and no one could get access to the buildings it said on a locked gate that it was $10 but no one could work out where you paid it. You guys need to get organised if you are running a tourist attraction as it is not all about selling coffees.

Hi Melanie, I am sorry you had a bad experience at Greenough, but it wasn't at our museum. We do not have a cafe, and it doesn't cost $10 to visit us (only $7 or $5 if you are a senior). We would appreciate it if you could remove this review. Thanks, Curator Greenough Museum & Gardens

Interesting and quaint Attraction
Sep 2020
The historic family home of the Maley family, this social history and community museum is really, really interesting and well worth a stopover between Perth and Geraldton. Not only is the museum interesting for all ages, but the gardens are beautiful, lush and well kept with pet guinea pigs for the kids to admire. We didn’t know what to expect but were very pleasantly surprised – thank you.

A Happy Experience
Oct 2020 • Family
We are just so happy we stopped and visited this museum and garden. A gardener myself, I appreciate the care and love put into this garden and not to mention a bit of Geraldton history. This place is open on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (not sure of the opening hours) but on Saturdays and Sundays they are open between 8.30 am to 3 pm. We spent about 45 mins to an hour. There is a fee of $7.00 for adults, Concession $5.00 and children is free. Not sure of their ages for children to be considered free.

Just Excellent
Sep 2020
The Historic Settlement is interesting but step inside this museum and be amazed, not just be the contents of the rooms and sheds, but the gardens and the ancient leaning tree. The building dates to 1862, starting life as a humble cottage and being expanded over the next 18 years to become the largest homestead at Greenough. During this period, the owner, John Maley, became a highly successful businessman while finding time to father 9 sons and 5 daughters with wife Elizabeth. The rooms are filled with artefacts of a bygone age, portraits, Aboriginal creations and more, while outside the sheds showcase various items of equipment, including a two seater dry toilet.
Don't overlook the framer portrait of John & Elizabeth, 'Welcome to the Pioneer Museum', a remarkable couple.

Wonderful Museum
Oct 2019 • Friends
We visited this museum on Tuesday 23 October 2019. Earlier that day I had stopped at the Greenough Heritage Museum and Pioneer Gardens desperately trying to find coffee for a very grumpy Loretta. The kind folk at the museum were very sympathetic to my plight and offered to make an instant coffee for Loretta in the shed at the back but that wasn’t going to work (poor Loretta needed a real coffee) so I drove her back to Geraldton where I was able find coffee at a Dome. But before leaving I had promised the museum peoples that we would call in later in the day, which we eventually did... it was so special because Margaret (the lady who had offered to boil the kettle to make instant coffee) gave us the most wonderful museum experience AND a lesson on how to make rag rugs using a bodkin...Margaret really is one of life’s gems!!!

SUPERB HISTORIC MUSEUM
Aug 2019
We visited during our stay in Geraldton for our sons wedding. The museum is fascinating explaining local history in detail, and also has nice gardens. We were given a great overview by the volunteer on hand. All in all well worth a visit. Richard & Barbara UK

A very good regional museum
May 2019 • Couples
This museum is well presented and full of local historical items, almost calling them treasures. There is plenty to see in each of the rooms. There is a small garden and old stables? at the rear of the cottage and a much larger garden on the side that has some interesting plants and trees.

Worth a visit
Jan 2019 • Couples
Cosy, local museum. Entry was only $5 for an adult. The dog was cute and the owner was very friendly. The house was interesting: it really captures life as it was during that era (early 1900's). We would have given 5/5 if the garden was more interesting. Otherwise excellent and would definitely recommend visiting if in the Greenough/Geraldton area.
