It is certainly worth visiting this site for the view over CASTLEMAINE alone, but also for the reminder the party was indeed more than ‘Burke and Wills’! Such a good place to begin a sightseeing tour of this area.

It is a wonderful looking memorial to two people who had no idea how to survive in the outback. Unfortunately None of these memorials give credit to John King, who with an Army background, and some nous, was able to survive.

It's an imposing edifice for sure, and with some interesting "fact boards" it makes for an interesting stop. But more than anything, the hill this is on offers a fabulous view of Castlemaine and surrounding country. Go for the view if nothing else!

Our bus driver, being a local took us to the Memorial and was able to point out various spots across town, as it was a great view from there. This is a very grand memorial to Burke & Wills, well done.

Braved the steep uphill climb up to the monument, the view is worthwhile. I'm familiar with the history but impressed with the monument simply because of it's size given the time it was erected

Very easy to find attraction located on a hill at the end of a residential street. Nice views over the township from here so it's worth a quick stop if you're in the area. The memorial itself isn't much to see.

I wanted to have look since I've also been to the dig tree. It's surprising how big and well located it is and I guess that says something about how big a deal the whole expedition was in those days. One surprising thing is that...More

It is nice to wander up to this memorial which overlooks the town. Any time of year you can look down and see the people of Castlemaine not do much. However what does the memorial stand for! Two explorers who were so dumb they died...More
