'Buda' is an authentic house and garden surviving from the gold rush era in Castlemaine, Victoria, lovingly named after Budapest by its Hungarian owner, Ernest Leviny. Come to Buda and enjoy walking through the historic house where you will be transported to another era, in this Museums Australia accredited museum. Wander three acres of heritage garden containing original plantings and structures, including the bird aviary, tennis pavilion and outbuildings, including many original garden sculptures created by the Leviny family. Jewellery and homewares featuring Leviny designs and souvenirs and local craft are available from the Buda Giftshop. Heritage plants plus a variety of fruit trees are available from the Buda Nursery

Step back in time. See how successful some immigrants made their life during the gold rush in Castlemaine. Beautiful jewellery made by the owner on display as well as the original furnishings.

The house was a good insight into the goldfields history and the family who lived there for 2 generations. Gardens looked in need of water and some TLC. Not sure if the $12 entry was value for money.

If you are in Castlemaine these beautiful gardens and homestead are worth a visit. Personally we would not make a special trip to see, but if in the area most definitely. If you are into gardens this would be a must. .

an interesting house historically but I was expecting a lot more. It all feels a little unloved and the gardens were very uncared for but I do realize these places take enormous amounts of time and money to upkeep so don't mean these comments as...More

We welcome your feedback, and thank you for taking the time to visit Buda. Buda is a local treasure, lovingly managed and cared for by a small staff and many volunteers. Of course, the limited funding received can make it difficult to maintain. However, Buda...More
