- Marco CCoimbra, Portugal79 contributionsAmazing Minitrekking in Perito MorenoAmazing day with excellent guides from the company Hielo y Aventura de El Calafate. Ice Minitrekking on a glacier as beautiful as Perito Moreno is a different way to be involved in this idyllic setting. Well equipped (fundamental the use of Crappons, gloves and a good sweater), we walked for 90min an improvised trail on the ice, with mandatory stops for many photos and at the end a toast with old whiskey with even older ice (about 200,000 years). Then we also took a walk on the catwalks with the opportunity for more photos. The return was by boat, as at the beginning for the beginning of the return trip to El CalafateVisited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 24, 2023
- Chris B18 contributionsPhenomenal glacierAbsolutely stunning glacier. Easy to get to via bus / tour from El Calafate, with well maintained and well signposted boardwalks around the area giving awesome views. Visitor centre has food, drink, gift shop and toilets.Visited March 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 18, 2024
- Try2TravelSustainablyHamilton, Canada401 contributionsbeautiful, highly recommendedthe best part of our 3 weeks in argentina. we will go again and spend the whole day again. we were there from open to close. great to walk around and hopefully kayaking will be open next time we go. bring your own food. there is a small cafe and restaurant - we would rather in outdoors though to enjoy the view. we rented a car to visit so that we could stop wherever we wanted to. i know most taxi's offer this service too.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 22, 2024
- Amanda WNewcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom429 contributionsMind bogglingThe guide I had was knowledgeable and made sure we had an interesting day. Its a long drive from El Calafate, so it was a long day but well worth it for the awesome sight of the glacier from land and boat. The 1 hour boat ride gave a different and fabulous view. My trip returned to the glacier after the boat trip for sn hour which I think was pointless as seen it before the boat trip. But cafe on site which was handy. Although cafe had limited sandwiches ( only 2 type) , so busy I had to eat standing up and long queue to get served. But complete awe inspiring dayVisited March 2024Traveled soloWritten March 2, 2024
- MoYoon-RiDaejeon, South Korea8 contributionsThe most beauutiful glacier!Buying those tickets for Argentina has been one of my best ideas. We have visited glaciers previously in Canada (Athabasca) and Iceland but this is the most spectacular by far. The combination of the size, the possibility of seeing it all so conveniently, and the added bonus of the crashing walls of ice taking place before your eyes make it unique. And its beauty! We've not seen colors as vibrant in any other glacier. Seriously being face-to-face with such massive natural wonder left us speechless. Now we're planning to travel to Chile and see its glaciers (Expladores), but we have heard that they are not as imposing as the Argentinian one.Visited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten May 19, 2024
- YolyPalomoLas Vegas, Nevada193 contributionsAbsolutely amazing & worth the visit! This glacier is absolutely amazing! Definitely worth spending a day visiting this beautiful park. It’s about two hours outside of the city depending on the weather but tours can be organized with a driver. Winter conditions can bring serious snow and we had flights canceled the day after our visit, so give your itinerary space for mother nature is you go during their winter. Best experience and well organized park!!!Visited June 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 25, 2024
- Alice M2 contributionsGreat Family Adventure at Perito Moreno GlacierOur family loved visiting Perito Moreno Glacier. The massive ice walls and cracking sounds were fascinating for the kids. The walkways offered safe and stunning views, and the boat tour brought us close to the glacier. It was a bit crowded, but overall, a fantastic family adventure!Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 2, 2024

A true world class must see
Do your research and spend as much of a full day as you can
As well as the boardwalks and the many vistas, we did the boat trip and mini hike on the glacier. The crampons took a little getting used to and the on glacier ice hike was not for the faint hearted or physically impaired. It was done by the National Park staff very well.
It wasn’t cheap, but we felt we experienced everything this remarkable national park has to offer
Unmissable

We booked a return bus from the bus station for 1200 each. We stopped at a view point on the way in and opted to take the boat tour for £12.5 each, Which I must add is so worth it. Then we had around 3 hours to walk along the boardwalks which are colour coded for ease.
Great day out and of course a must see if going to El Calafate!

There is a long boardwalk leading down from the Park headquarters with spectacular views of this stable mass of ice along the way. You can take your lunch and enjoy it from the boardwalk. There is a privately operated kayak operation where you can rent a kayak in a group to paddle out into Lake Argentina and see the glacier up close.. They outfit you in a dry suit and give you a quick orientation to kayaking but we wouldn't advise doing it if you have no experience in a kayak.

Our day began with a boat ride to the face of the glacier. I was hoping to get a bit closer to the glacier, but I understand the safety of keeping a reasonable distance due to calving of the glacier. We did see small chunks of this huge glacier tumbling into the water. After the boat ride, drive to the visitor's center for restrooms, a nice cafeteria, and the balconies. We spent over 2 hours on the balconies with our tour guide just admiring the beauty of the Perito Moreno Glacier. A highlight not to be missed if in the Patagonia region of South America. (If you want to trek on the glacier, you must be under 65 years of age. We didn't qualify.)

It is an excursion that you have to do in any case if you are in El Calafate, on your own or through an agency, obviously with a company you have the addition of explanation about the place, but it can be done on your own without problem .
It is advisable to pay the entrance to the national park online in advance so that entry to it is speeded up, the prices are for foreigners 12,000 pesos, national residents 2,500 pesos, from 6 to 16 years old 1,500 pesos, students 1,500 pesos, provincial residents 1,000 pesos, there are discounts for second day of visit of 50%
It has a cafeteria where you can have breakfast, a snack or lunch, and a souvenir shop.
The lake excursions are separate, average 40,000 per person for 1 hour of navigation, find out beforehand which side of the glacier they are taking place, whether it faces north or south of the glacier.

The glacier is beautiful, through the walkways you can see it from different angles. I recommend going by rental car or transfer and purchasing the 1-hour boat trip right there in the park. The boat ride is nice and not tiring and leaves at several different times. We went by transfer with Nahuel (+5492966627354) and it was great, he charged a fair price, we took the tour without rushing and even stopped at viewpoints along the way. We liked it so much that we arranged for him to take us to the airport and he was very punctual and professional.

Perito Moreno Glacier is a must see place in Argentina. It is a lot closer and approachable than these in Alaska. If you are lucky with good weather, you can definitely enjoy the vast glacier from multiple angles in the park. In December, it was quite windy and cold. The view is gorgeous and there are multiple trails that you can enjoy from the top, side and bottom. There are boat trips available than you can spend an hour to get a closer look. We also took the very popular Glacier Mini trekking that requires advanced reservation.

We drove from El Calafate. Having your own car helps quite a bit since you are not tied to the bus schedules and/or tour buses.
On the way from El Calafate - you will pass through the National Park entrance. You can pay for your tickets using credit card. At the time of writing, they did accept Visa but not Mastercard - so be aware). If you are planning to visit the park multiple days, it definitely helps to keep your ticket because on subsequent days you only pay 50%.
Once you enter the park, drive all the way upto the parking lot. Keep in mind, weather changes quite a bit even from El Calafate, it was sunny in the town but cloudy and snowing in the glacier area, but that is what adds to the charm of the place
You will be amazed by the sheer scale of the glacier wall of Perito Moreno. We haven't seen anything close to this size and scale (I've seen glaciers in Glacier National Park as well as New Zealand Milford sound area, but this was entirely different). I'd suggest wearing warm clothes (November) as well as rain jackets if you can. Do all the trails (will take around an hour stopping for photos). The North section of the glacier is huge.
Stop by for coffee in the visitor's center.

Stupid title of my review, but can a human really "review" a glacier? :) Nothing I can say can fully describe the splendor of a glacier, especially this one. What I do feel qualified to review, is the set up of the park. I'm not sure if I went on a "busy" day or not, but I felt the viewing areas and walkways allowed for a large number of people to view the glacier and move around the area in an organized, uncrowded manner, which made it a pleasant experience that could have easily been chaos with the amount of people who visit. We also took the boat tour, which brought us closer to the glacier. I highly recommend that as well, except that experience did have more of a crowded feel, as is expected on a small boat. But overall - just wow :)

Hola! Se puede llegar desde Ushuaia? Y es buena época quincena de mayo?

Hola! Is it ok to use drones in this place?
It seems forbidden, however, I can find lots of drone videos of Peroto Moreno on Youtube.
Did they get something like a special permission?

Qual è il periodo migliore per visitare il Perito Moreno?
Written January 25, 2021
Hey,
for hiking i think you have to book the big ice or the minitrekking. Anyway you need a guide to hike the glacier.
I can recommend you hielo & adventura in el calafate.
enjoy

Día 1: Buquebus Montevideo - Buenos Aires + vuelo Buenos Aires - El Calafate
Día 2: llegada a El Calafate (descanso)
Día 11: Vuelta El Calafate - Buenos Aires y Montevideo
Muchas gracias y estaré esperando opiniones :)

Hola Clau, es perfecto el itineriario que has armado, es mas conveniente hospedarte en Chalten si realmente quieres hacer treiking ya que el viaje de Calafate al Chalten insume varias horas

i would recomend the Big Ice Tour with Hielo & Aventura. It cost ca. 250 US- Dollar but it's worth. I stayed at Folks Suites in El Calafate.
After Perito Moreno you can take a bus to Puerto Natales or Torres del Paine Nationalpark.
