Took grandkids here to see the rookery in full swing. Early June. Great and kids loved it. Even got to see a bald eagle flying about 20 feet above our heads. Nature center is super, trails excellent and a beautiful lakeside walk.

This is a good place for all ages. They have shorter trails with amazing views of the lake and shore. The heron rookery is an amazing site. There is a small gift shop and learning/exhibit area in the building. Admission is free but we decided...More

Wonderful county site for nature walks, picnics and hikes! I has asked about paddling and there is a canoe launch site just before the entrance. Here it looks like a nice Stillwater paddle on a creek but I'd suggest spring. We walked all the trails...More

I grew up around the corner from this place. My dad would have us kids & dog jump in the back of the pick up truck and drive us over, many would bring a bar of soap after a long hard day on the construction...More

We went back this time of year because we read that the herons come back to nest. We were not disappointed. There were about 10 occupied nests. We saw a pair of blue teal ducks, a clutch of gaiters snakes and other birds. Perfect spot...More

One of the best little nature preserves in upstate New York. Joins Montezuma as one of our real favorites. Not as well-know, perhaps, but that's fine because here you can find the quietude of nature. Diverse ecosystem, from marshes, meadows, woodlands and the shore. Beautiful.

No admission charge. There might be a place for donations inside gift center. Blue heron roosts are really cool now.
