Amoudi Bay
About
It’s a steep descent to this idyllic port just below Oia in Santorini. Wear good shoes as the terrain is rocky and steep, and you’ll have to go down over 200 steps to get there. Seafood restaurants grilling octopus await you at the bottom, and a trail over rocky terrain will take you to a spot where you can swim in crystal-clear waters and watch cliff jumpers. Amoudi Bay is a great place to unwind, especially at sunset. If you want to skip the walk back up, opt for a taxi back to Oia or splurge for a water taxi. – Tripadvisor

    Beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful!!! We went twice on our stay in Santorini. The first time we ate at Sunset Ammoudi, which was delicious, and then walked around the path to the swimming area. We didn't swim, but the walk was fun, although a bit hard at times because the path is quite worn. The second time we disembarked from a sunset cruise at Ammoudi Bay, the lights from Ammoudi Bay and Oia at night make for a most beautiful scene. Yes, the walk down/up can be a bit demanding, but it's worth it.

Dont let your kids in the water!!! Not safe!!
Swimming here was scary! The waves go from calm to big very quickly. Im an adult female and was pushed around into the rocks and got badly scratched up. There was a little boy with massive scabs on his chin and chest. His brother told me jumping off the cliffs was scary. The trail ends so you have to climb rocks to get to the cliffs. Maybe its safer to swim past the trail? That said the food was some of the best I ever had. The hike back up hill eliminates any post meal guilt u might feel after eating. Donkeys are cute and the view is very pretty.

    A stroll down memory lane
I was in Santorini on my own for the first time in july 2019. Not that long after the Covid-19 wave in Europe finally stopped, more or less, thankfully, my partner and myself decided to make a trip to Santorini together. We stayed for 7 nights in Amoudi Bay. This whole trip on Santorini was one of those trips of a lifetime for both of us. Every time i looked at the quite many photos we took, i smiled to myself😘. How could i ever forget, for example, walking the 300 steps, from Amoudi Bay all the way up to Oia?❤ I would recommend Santorini indeed for all travelers who have not yet visited this really beautiful island. But please be aware of the fact that prices here are somewhat more expensive when compared to the Greek mainland or even to Crete island. The price of beauty?✌

    Best swimming in Santorini
Best swimming in Santorini! Beautiful clear water. Not a real beach area. Just large boulders. But we liked it so much better than the beaches in Santorini. We jumped off the platform and rocks and had the best time. The walk to the swimming area is a little challenging but take your time. We didn’t eat at the restaurants in the bay but they looked amazing. The tables were right on the water. Such a cute little area. Worth visiting.

So pretty, a little tough to get to
Such beautiful and clear waters! I went for a swim here and the water, although a little chilly at first, was so nice to swim in after walking around in the sun. Getting to this “beach” is a little tricky. You have to maneuver over boulders. This is not an easy path for those that have trouble walking or climbing. Even I was afraid to skip and catch my foot in a hole between rocks. The “beach” itself doesn’t have a shore but instead is a rocky jump off. There is a ladder you can you to climb into the water. I would be very cautious when swimming in these waters. There are many sea urchins over the rocks so be careful when putting you foot down in the water. I’m not sure that water shoes would protect you but maybe having swim goggles so you can see what’s safe to step on.

    Do the walk down
I had read reviews about the stairs and was nervous. It wasn’t that bad. I don’t workout frequently and had a few glasses of wine at the bottom and it wasn’t a big deal. I stopped a few times for a few seconds to grab a breather (it was hot when we were there) and then off I went. It goes pretty fast. It was worth the walk. The water is beautiful at the bay. We had lunch at Basalt and it was really good. Grab a hat and some walking shoes and just die it. Loads easier than the walk from Oia to Fira!!!

    Phenomenal but challenging
Phenomenal. I wish my entire Greece vacation was in places like Ammoudi Bay. The walk down is NOT for the faint of heart. Bring water, wear sturdy and non slip shoes, wear a hat, if you have a fan, bring it. If you are unsteady on your feet, arrange a car to bring you down.

    Not for the Faint Hearted
Not for the faint hearted. Over 250 precarious steps down but worth the experience, lovely to watch the comings and goings of a tiny port. Lovely sea food restaurants down there. If u do not want to walk back up u can get a taxi for around 20 euros - in the heat it is worth every penny.

Sea and sunset. Great combination. Views are amazing.

Be warned, if you want to eat at the restaurants and have a table by the sea with an uninterrupted (it will never be completely uninterrupted, it’s Santorini after all) view you should book WELL in advance. The restaurants are extremely expensive and for the price you don’t get amazing food (amoudi fish tavern fell afoul of this!). The Prosecco at sunset tavern was bang on though...

We got to Oia from the island of Therassia, there are three ferries every day connecting Thirassia Principal port to Oia.
The village is beautiful, there is a lot of fish restaurants along the bay and up in the city too.
The stairs to go up is quite long but not impossible (10 minutes walk) or you can take a donkey (if you can, don't), but it's worth it for the view.
If your stay is in Santorini you can go to Oia by bus, there is one often (you can check the timing on the photo posted on google in the review of "Fira bus station".

If I can suggest a trip:
Arrive in Santorini and take 4/5 days to visit the island and the different beaches (buses are chaotic, but frequent and manageable), then go to the old port of Thira and take a 6h boat trip (30 euros) that make you visit the vulcan and bath in the hot volcanic springs in the small island between Santorini and Thirassia, at the end the tour normally stops on Thirassia island a couple of hours before going back to santorini island... I suggest you to not go back but take a room and stay a couple of night there (it's a very rural and beautiful small island, you can go hiking and both the beaches are beautiful and not crowded, the local restaurant are quite good.
Then you can take the farry Thirassia-Oia to go there (cost 1€), and then you already are on the main island so you can get to the airport and go back home or whenever you like.

An amazing place to visit. The views are spectacular as you wind your way down around 230 steps. When you get to the bottom, walk straight through the restaurant on the left to the other side and follow the path around the cliff edge. You have to climb over rocks to get to an accessible part of the bay to get into the water. It is quite dangerous and extremely uncomfortable underfoot with the jagged lava rocks So I would recommend water shoes or old runners. Also once in the water be careful of the rocks as they can be slimy and slippery. The water is lovely and refreshing and well worth the hassle when you finally get in. There is a diving platform on the little island opposite if you are brave enough to have a go. I personally would not bring children here as it is quite dangerous to access and the waves can have quite a swell, especially if there are boats in the area. I watched a couple with 2 small children and it was absolute torture for them.

Lovely bay, very pretty but the walk down is awful.

The donkey owners do not control their donkeys, they were riding two up the cliff and one was ahead of them without a rider, it backed me up against a wall as it came to be pet. This was very traumatic and could have been avoided if the donkey was controlled better. The other donkeys are scattered down one straight of the cliff, you literally have to walk in zig zags behind donkeys (luckily they didn't kick) to get past them. There was an owner sat under a canopy with no care in the world.

Would highly recommend a taxi! However expect to pay at least 15 euro for a lift that is only a few minutes.

The bay is full of restaurants which is nice but make sure you booked prior to hike, would be awful to endure that walk and not get a table. Would recommend Amoudi Fish Tavern!

The worst part of it all, when you are trying to enjoy a nice evening meal, all the party catamarans park up for sunset - a shame this tainted our experience.

very beautiful site to see from both land and from sea. however, it's not very large and so it's hard to spend a lot of time there unless you dine at one of the restaurants. good as a stop on the way to Oia up top.

5 Fish restaurants in a beautiful secluded bay offering a large selection of fresh seafood. We tried 2 restaurants and had really fresh Red snapper and giant shrimp, grilled perfectly everytime. The other restaurants seemed to also have a fresh selection of fish.
Highly recommend for seafood in Oia with better quality than in the town. Nice selection of wines and good service.

The steep walk down the cliff to the bay is worth it and the restaurant arranges a taxi ride back up to the town. Well worth it!

Lovely little bay with lots of restaurants right next to the water. Be prepared for the hike up and down though, there are a lot of steps. Make sure you have suitable footwear as I wouldn’t recommend doing it in flip flops like myself!
Once we got to the bottom we walked through the restaurant areas and got a lovely lunch. We then continued to walk around to the “beach” area. It’s a rocky terrain but we really enjoyed the walk. It was worth it to swim in such clear waters as well. There is no sand as such just big rocks and a small flat area where some people were lying on towels.
I would definitely recommend a visit to this gorgeous area of Oia.

Amoudi Bay is worth the effort if you are staying near Oia.

The walk down is easier that the walk back up so you can avoid the return hike by getting a taxi or by combining a swim with a boat trip that includes a transfer back to your accommodation which is what we did.

Walk round the headland to the left of the bay as you look out to see. The water is so clear, snorkelling is good and there is a platform about 5 metres high that you can jump from in to the sea.

The restaurants are right on the water and all do great fresh seafood but you can also just get a beer and share a plate of chips if you're on a budget like us!

Recommended.

We had such a great drive to Amoudi beach and scenary was great. Wonderful place to visit. But restaurants there are very expensive and they will ruin your experience at Amoudi bay. One of the main worthy attractions on the island except for the restaurants which will rip you off in the day light.

Take the walk down the steps (make sure to bring water with you if you plan to walk back up). Walk past the restaurants and follow a trail (you'll see many others on their way back) to get to the spot where you can swim to a small cliff to jump off. The crystal blue water was at perfect temp in late June.
