If you love history you will find this unusual site fascinating. Taking their inspiration of the Egyptian Desert Fathers, hermits, then monks established their monastery by carving their living and religious spaces out of the rock at the top of the hill. As more people...More

We passed by accident signs to the abbey on our way back from the Pint du Gard. Happy we decided to take the detour. Great views over the Province, and remarkable building carved out of the rocks. Absolutely worthwhile to visit. Drive to parking and...More

I got there on my Brompton bicycle from Tarascon station, more by luck than anything, as the turning off the cycle path parallel to the D986L is not easy to find. The cycle path seems to be an old railway line. To find it cycle...More

Well, this is one of a kind in Europe, so really worth visiting. The little path to get there is well maintained and easy to walk. It was very interesting and offers a great view over the Rhone valley as well. so not only worth...More

After a stressful drive starting at 11am in Cavaillon, my wife and I embarked on the strenuous walk up to the site entrance, arriving just before 12.35pm and hoping to make a fairly brisk visit before moving on towards Nimes. I was aware that the...More

This was not well publicised, even the road signage was lacking. But a good path from the car park led up the hill. The Abbey is very interesting and has been there a long time, with some changes during that time. Views from the top...More

Nice walk to the abbey, though not for physical disabled people, stunning view over the Rhônes valley (certainly with good weather). No guided tours, but good flyer available at the entrance about the history of this abbey. No free entrance anymore.
