About
Known as the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, Ausable Chasm is a sandstone gorge that offers incredible views, various hiking trails, and waterfalls. There are five miles of hiking trails for you to explore, including the scenic Inner Sanctum and Rim Walk trails. In the summer, go rafting or tubing along the river to beat the heat. You can also rock climb, rappel, and go on an obstacle course. Before you leave, pop by the Visitor Center to learn more about Ausable Chasm’s geological history. It's recommended to visit Ausable Chasm early for a smaller crowd. – Tripadvisor

Worth driving to. Its awe inspiring.
The chasm is amazing to see. Really interesting how it drops off so far in such a short span of the river. Unfortunately, the whole place is privately owned so if you don't buy a ticket to do the boat float, or the zip line, or the tour, you really are limited to seeing what you can from the highway bridge. We arrived after hours and it was raining so we chose to just view what we could from the bridge.

    A great summer day trip
We drove 2.5 hours north of Albany, NY, to go to Ausable Chasm. We opted to take the basic rafting tour of the Chasm, plus the River Walk tour. Two notes: Bring a complete change of clothes including footwear, to keep in your car, and closed-toe shoes are required for the River Walk tour. Our tour guide was Chase, was very informative and keen to ensure everyone's safety. The 2+ mile tour tour includes crossing two one-plank-wide suspension bridges, which is just scary enough to be fun. The rafting tour guides were Lydia and Caleb, who were informative and kept us laughing at the water sloshing in the raft. We were soaked from the waist down! We opted for the shuttle bus back to the Visitors' Center.

    Ausable Chasm
This did not disappoint!!!!! The one mile hike was just enough and you can end with a tube trip or float trip. Highly recommend the tube!!!! The cool river was a treat on a hot day! Guides were there along the way to help if needed, but easy and so much fun!!

    Beautiful
My brother had never been to Ausable Chasm and loved it, of course. Gift shop had some good late season bargains. A very large Asian (probably Japanese) group was finishing a tour of the gorge when we arrived, smiles on most of their faces.

    Amazing Falls and Canyon
Im not sure I could write a fair review of Ausable Chasm. the 2 days before I went it rained including a vicious storm. The Ausable River was really wild and the Falls were amazing and quite vicious, However because of the storms the raft ride was not working. However the Falls and the River were really awesome and it was worth it to go. I just missed the raft ride

    Loved it!!
I loved Ausable Chasm. We had a great time. Due to the weather the riverwalk was closed, but we still had a great time on the trails. Great views. It took us around 2 hours to do the trails. Lots of spots to have picknick’s or take a break. At the end and shuttle buss brings you back to the parking. For 20$ would recommend!!!

This was amazing and so peaceful- we saw this place years ago coming across lake Champlain ferry- just made it back and it was just as I remembered- got caught in the rain on the walk!

Be wary to visit Ausable Chasm! This place is not worth the money at all! Adventure Trail via Feratta is sooo easy and short. My kid, was very disappointed as it didn't meet his expectation. The inner sanctum trail was not really much to see, you view the same thing all along the path. The river float tour was very short, maybe it takes about 4-5 mins max on the raft but the line takes 2 hours to get ready. The kids will just sit and will not get any paddle on the raft. Not to mention, the helmet, PFD and the harness were very stinky, they were never get disinfected properly. The staff were not friendly at all. The worst thing is, they made an error charging adult fees for kids admission when you didn't notice. Make sure to check your receipt and resolve it on the same day!!!

My husband and I, along with our 20yr old visited while camping out on way to college drop-off. It was a great experience all around. We bought the explorer package which includes the River Walk, raft ride and trails. All activities were fun but if I had to choose I would omit the raft ride. It’s a really short ride and a fairly long wait to get on. Also- and this is the most important part- your feet will be soaked. I mean- underwater! So take a change of shoes or wear closed toe water shoes for this part. We wound up doing the hike with sloshy feet. But the “orange, Dry Chasm” hike was amazing. It’s very rocky with lots of tree roots but that all added to the beauty. Overall it was a fun day, wet feet and all.

The Inner Sanctum trail was the highlight by far - stunning gorge views with raging water. Considering the gorge/waterfall beauty on par with the chasm that exists in NYS (such as Watkins Glen and Letchworth State Parks) and much less expensive to see, I must deduct a star.
