Quiet, calm water was perfect for this beginner at SUP and the area was not crowded at all. The views were spectacular. The road is windy but totally adequate. The facilities were clean and staff friendly.

The road down to Santa Cruz Lake is quite rough in places (at least at the present time), otherwise I would give a "5" rating. The lake itself is very pretty/attractive.

A real gem in the middle of a hot day. Small fee per car, but worth it. Very scenic. I stumbled upon it by accident as I was driving a different, very scenic road.

We live about 5 miles from Santa Cruz lake and had no idea it was near us for a year. There are two approaches to SC Lake. The southern approach brings you to a primitive campground high above the lake with just spectacular views down hundreds of feet to the water. We bring all out of town visitors here for the view. There are shelters, fire pits, and outhouses. There are also some very steep drop offs so keep your dogs and kids on a leash. If they go down, they aren't coming back up in one piece. RVs can park here but there are no hookups. Go back down the semi-crappy dirt road to the paved highway and head north a few miles to the other entrance. Here you will wind down to the lake itself. There are more picnic sites and outhouses down here, and some shade trees. There is a boat ramp. No motorized boats allowed. Fishing is allowed and the lake is stocked with trout. A NM license is required to fish. All the amenities at the lake level are brand new. Great place for short hikes and being near the water.
