We arrived this place actually from the back side... where the monks are washing and living around. Nice glass windows, big Buddha but have seen a lot already... quite relaxing and peaceful.

The Mahamuni Pagoda was made in the likeness of the Maha Muni Image at Mandalay. The great image made in Mandalay was brought to Naga-with a hill on the Mawlamyine Ridge where a large building known as Gandakudi Taik was built to house it. The...More

A nice pagoda, although there are 2 or 3 more in the city which are on the same level. What makes Mahamuni special is, as i it situated on the hill top, its view almost all around over the city and the sea with its...More

Not as grand as Kyaikthanlan Pagoda but certainly more peaceful and less crowded than its bigger neighbour to the South, and even though the view is mostly obstructed by the tree line, the beautiful interior, with its colourful window panes is certainly worth a visit....More

Situate on the north side from Kyaikthanlan pagoda. There is a good connection way from Kyaikthanlan Pagoda to Mahamuni Pagoda. The Buddha is looked the same like the Mahamuni Bronze Buddha image in Mandalay, quite a little bit smaller than.

We were heading up to the Kyaik Tan Lan pagoda (The Famous Mawlymayne Pagoda of Kippling Fame) and started at the bottom of a walkway up to it - and came across this. Long story about a banished Queen longing to see the Mahamuni Paya...More

I enjoyed this Paya as women can sit near the Mahamuni Buddha, unlike in Mandalay. The surround hall is also lovely with coloured glass windows and mirrored columns, It is also a peaceful environment. The dogs that live around the Paya are friendly as well.
