Great little museum on the history of the late 50's and 60's neon resort of Wildwood, NJ
Sep 2021
The Doo Wop Museum shows the change in the resort of Wildwood, NJ from a more Victorian resort to the Neon palaces of motels that lined the shore.

WWII brought all this leftover neon to be used in signs and displays at all the local motels and one by one as they have been torn down, their artifacts have been displayed here to show the changing of the times down the shore.

It is a small museum but packed with information and many interesting displays.

The couple that work here are really nice and they created a entertaining video on the history of the museum.

Unique small museum with lots of interesting things to see if you like history
Sep 2019
The Doo Wop Museum is a very small museum of old remnants of the hotels and homes that once dotted the shoreline of Wildwood. The museum contains pieces of the resort's past. As the old motels and restaurants close, they give their signs and furniture to the museum to preserve. There are lots of old pieces of decor, motel signs and old sixties and seventies furniture and do dads.

You can see the whole place in about a half hour and the volunteers there were playing cards the entire time I was there. It was interesting but unless you like history of a resort and like old advertising, this will not be the museum for you. Go the Boyer Historical Society more interesting displays.

Still it is a fun place to visit.

a must see museum
Aug 2019
We've been visiting Wildwood for over 20 years and this is the first time we finally made it to this very cool museum. When you walk in, you feel like you've stepped back in time and that is what makes this a very interesting place to visit. They have preserved many items from the past and we enjoyed sharing this experience with our teenage boys.

If you're in the area
Jul 2019
My son has been wanting to come here for a while, so we drove from Rockland Cty, NY, here, just for the day, just to visit this museum. I did not think that it was worth the drive; but maybe if I were in town, anyway, and it was a rainy day... The Doo Wop Museum is rather small, and much of it houses some memorabilia from that era, including various rooms of a house from that era. The most informative parts, I found, were what the owner had to say, and a sliding technological piece. I would have liked to explore this a little more, but my son--the one for whom I made this trip--was anxious to leave, and was acting up a little (Although 21, he has Special Needs.). We did come back, at night, for the bus tour. That he really enjoyed (He loves bus/trolley rides.). It took us past many of the neon signs of the Wildwoods, and gave a good narrated tour of the area. Combining this with going on the beach and a couple of rides, ended up making it a nice day.

The building was not well labeled. Even tho we had the address and figured out which building it was, we still were not sure. We asked a police officer on the board walk about it and he had never heard of it. Once we found it, the visit lasted less than 10 minutes.

A trip back to the good old days
Aug 2018 • Couples
As someone who's been going to Wildwood since I was a baby, it was wonderful to revisit some long-gone places. Clips of the documentary "Wildwood Days" showing on an interactive wall brought them back to life. The people I spoke to who were new to Wildwood enjoyed the time capsule experience. If you're there when the trolly tours are offered, they're well worth it. The staff is not only well-versed on the history, but can offer great recommendations for restaurants, attractions and activities.

I went there by myself one afternoon while everyone else was doing there own thing. The people were extremely friendly. Gave me tips on what else to do. The displays were wonderful, I felt like I took a time machine back to the doo-wop era!
