We have wondered for many years about this place. Finding the information in French seemed quite daunting but, today, we bit the bullet and decided to go for it. For the basic piscine entry with hammam vaporeum we were charged €12 per adult. We were given towels, but not offered robes, and guided to the changing and locker areas. On entering the pool area we were told to go to the vaporeum first for up to 15 minutes, then shower and come back to the pool. The underground vaporeum is well worth visiting. It’s carved out tunnels in the rocks and it’s hot! Some reports say around 43degC but we thought it was hotter. BE AWARE.... the floors to and from the vaporeum are slippy! The showers offer different types of showers at different temperatures, but I chickened out from using the cold water bucket shower. The pool was a nice temperature , in fact surprisingly hot. Note, the pool is not really suitable for swimming as it is supposed to be a relaxation pool.

The pool, sauna and Turkish Hamman do the job! The whole set up is very French and as usual the showing and dressing facilities seem like an afterthought. However, the whole experience is great fun and relaxes the body and mind. You are allowed to bring in a bag and book etc, so you can spend a whole afternoon there. The advertising for this facility is extremely poor. Its very difficult indeed to find out when it's open (even if you speak French ) this would be very easy to correct. Need a sign on the front door and opening times /dates on the front page of the web site. Job done. The whole thing is faded glory, but for me that adds to the charm. You are REALLY having a local experience. A bit of deep cleaning might help.

On a day off from the slopes, we decided to have a little relax. We had seen that there is a certain schedule for children during the holiday so went about 2.30 in the afternoon. The staff were very friendly, and after paying we were shown to the first floor where we collected towels and robes (there is no need to bring your own!). The staff checked that we were not wearing any silver jewellery as the sulphur can turn it black. There was a separate pool for the children with floats, balls and building blocks to play with. My husband and I took it in turns to go into the vaporarium which was quite magical place. With subtle lightning and a very calm atmosphere (talking is discouraged) it is very difficult to not feel incredibly relaxed in minutes. The cave ceilings are quite low so be mindful when walking around. There are benches to relax on and water hoses to spray yourselves with. It really is an amazing experience. The swimming pool with jacuzzi beds and waterfalls is very warm and children can enter it until 4pm during the holidays. The smell of sulphur is quite strong but the relaxing and unique experience is worth working through it! Well worth a visit!

The Vapouriam is must when visiting Luchon. For €15 you get unlimited access to the underground natural sauna and then the communal spa. The whole experience is amazing and you leave feeling extremely relaxed and clean. For English speakers the first time can be a little intimidating but once you've been once and know the process it very easy. A few tips. Wear your bathers under your clothes and have a your clean underwear with your thongs(sandals for non Australians) in a plastic bag. If you don't have sandals you can buy a pair for €2 when you pay your entry fee. Have exact money for you and whoever else is going with an Euro for the clothes locker. You buy your entry ticket on the ground floor and then take the stairs or lift to the first floor on your left facing the service
Desk. Take your ticket to the counter where you will receive a gown and a towel. At the far end of the entry hall you will see yellow hangers that you use to hang your clothes etc in the lockers after you've got changed. You can fit 2 of the yellow hangers in each locker. You enter the change cubicle one way and lower the bench that locks the door and turns on the occupied red light on. Once changed into you robe take your hanger and go through the other door and into the locker room. Choose a locker with a key in it and put your clothes inside and an Euro inside the door. Lock your door and put your key band on your wrist then take your towel through to the shower room. Put your robe and towel in the glass shelves and a have a quick shower. Follow the signs to the entry of the Vapouriam and put your robe and towel in the same number cubicle as your locker. It's recommended you don't spend more the 15mins inside. You must keep your sandal on at all times inside. When you come out, shower again and I recommend the cold bucket and then go have spa. The jets around the outside are at various heights and strength so move around the spa to get all your tight spots. The jet beds come on for about 5 mins and it's etiquette to get off and let someone else on once they've stopped if it's busy. Enter the Vapouriam as many times as you want. Once your finished reverse the process. The Euro locker depo

Two couples visited for an afternoon and what a treat this place is. €15 adult entry. Take your swimmies and flip flops (or buy flip flops there for €2). Spend as long as you like here. First you enter the swimming pool room which leads into the thermal spa area which is built into caves. 38 degree heat rising to 42 degrees in one area of the caves. 100% humidity with bench seats throughout to sit on, relax into your own thoughts and sweat. You are only allowed 15 minutes max in the thermal caves. Come out and chill in the warm pool and take a turn to sit on the bubbling water seats area within the pool - you will see what I mean if you visit. It's great! Then back in the thermal caves, back in the pool and so on until you have had enough. There are loungers around the pool to sit and relax. Bathrobes and towels are provided. The domed glass ceiling has fantastic views out, leading to a very relaxing time. Word of warning - take off your jewellery. I wear silver and because of the sulphur in the water it all turned a horrid dark copper colour. I thought I had ruined my engagement ring and necklace so had to look up on the internet how to get silver back. Parking outside is local permits for 2 hours so to be safe park a couple of roads down for free.

Nice experience in the off season as there are less people. The massage I got from Amadine was fantastic. Well worth the visit. In high season, I can imagine it being overcrowded as it was just right in october.

We bought a Vaporium pass to use after hiking close to Luchon. After changing we went straight to the underground hamam as the pool was already busy (the pool is also a lot smaller than it looks in any of the pictures online). While the underground section was much smaller than I expected, it is quite unique, but because of the number of people that had been admitted to the Vaporium area there was nowhere left to sit. After spending 10-15 minutes inside, we headed back out to the pool, which now resembled a human cooking pot as there were so many people inside nobody had any space to move. We waited for a while on the surrounding loungers but more and more people were admitted to the Vaporium area without anyone leaving that a queue started forming to get into the pool!

Overall disappointing and they really should introduce a limit on the number of people or fixed time slots of 1hr or something similar.

Tradional spa providing a 'cure' rather than cosmetic treatments. Open to the general public of an afternoon plus Sunday morning. There's a pool with jacuzzi area and a natural, steam cave - the only one n Europe. Well organized and clean. Additional treatments, such a mud bath or jet shower, available. Very relaxing but remember to drink plenty of water.

My friend and I came here on a full day ski + Vaporium pass (40 euros versus 15 euros just to get into Vaporium). A word to the wise: MAKE SURE YOU BRING A PAIR OF FLIP FLOPS! Instead of the mandatory swimming cap that most places require you to have on hand, this place omitted the cap and made it mandatory to have flip flops. Neither of us having prepared footwear, we were required to pay 2 euros each on the spot for a pair of cheap one-time wear flip flops (my friend told me that you get them for free if you take part in any of their spa treatments). The place is quite special and boasts the only natural hammam in a cave that gets progressively hotter as you explore further on through the various tunnels. Upon exiting the hammam, they have showers to rinse or a huge bucket of ice cold water to throw on yourself and get that circulation going! They also had a round pool with two "waterfalls" to soothe aching back muscles and 6 to 8 jacuzzi seats on the other side of the pool that people can sit in for around 5 minutes before getting off and letting the next batch of people on (you can always stare at them to give them a subliminal message that their time is up so get the F off). All around the pool are recliners that you can sit in and relax or read a good book. Apparently, they're really strict with the recliners and you're not allowed to "save" any of them unless you're physically on them. Anyway...all in all a relaxing activity to do after a day of ski. It's not fancy or anything and there's not THAT much to do, but a nice way to end the day.
