Always a good trip. Best part is no charge from Hatteras Island to Ocracoke and back. They have bathrooms and once underway you can exit your vehicle and enjoy the trip and views.

There are not many things free in the world today, but this is one. A great one hour ferry trip from Hatteras to Ocracoke Island, and the return ride is also free with your vehicle included. The Captain and attendants are all friendly, knowledgeable and...More

Friendly captain. Clean restrooms. I often get sea sick but stayed in the car and read. The ferry is so heavy I guess the waves didn’t rock us much and I never got sick.

Very orderly and quite timely. They know what they are doing! Once your vehicle is in line there are some really nice shops right next door. Park and shop while you wait for the next ferry. It's an hour ride to Ocracoke. You are allowed...More

The NC ferry was very orderly and professional. I thought I might be a bit concerned as I’d not driven onto a ferry in forever. But they made it easy. Really nice deck up top to sit and enjoy your 2-3 hour tour from Cedar...More

Great way to travel to Okracoke Island if you don't have a boat and don't want to swim. Watch the hours or you will end out sleeping in the parking lot waiting for the morning ferry.

We were pleasantly surprised that the vehicle ferry between Hatteras Island and Ocracoke Island on the Outer Banks of North Carolina was free. Once underway, it is about a one hour ride. It was fun to talk to fellow travelers.

I actually counted the cars on the ferry trips we took. It seems that 20 - 25 was the number. I also think weight comes into play as one time there was room for more cars and they didn't allow them to board.

Unfortunately, you need to have a vehicle. But, if you have one already, the ferry takes it too. You just drive right on up the ramp.
