Overview
More
The historic Colonial Theatre originally opened in 1915 and is the oldest continuously operating movie theatre in the United States. Now, after a series of renovations and improvements, the 300-seat Colonial offers state-of-the-art digital projection and surround sound for independent and world cinema, hosts Grammy award-winning performing artists, family entertainment, and community events from May through October—all without losing the intimate charm of a vintage summer theater. The Colonial Theatre is on New Hampshire Registry of Historic Places and was named “Best Vintage Movie Theatre” by Yankee Magazine.

The Steep Canyon Rangers performed, the sound was beautiful, physically moving through me and the appreciative and joyful crowd.

During our recent vacation in the White Mountains area we visited this lovely place two evenings in a row. Watching a film there, while tucked up with a blanket courtesy of the place, is really a unique experience! As a matter of fact, the second...More

The Colonial Theater is located in a sweet little village which is decorated beautifully for summer. It boasts of being the longest running theater in the USA - lovely place!

Check out the schedule as it changes frequently and you don't want to miss a film you might not otherwise see! In the winter, they pass out fleece blankets to keep you warm! Cozy!

Went to see the Steep Canyon Rangers last week. We had a great time. You can get there a little early and have a cold drink on the outside patio. Very enjoyable!

We saw Richard Thompson here. There's a bar with beer and wine. Acoustics were very good. Place is cute and comfortable. It could use more bathrooms but I heard that is being planned.

Great local color and hospitality (often staffed with volunteers from the community). The colonial has a sophisticated and carefully crafted music and film offering every Summer. It is also a host theater for The Manhattan Short Film Festival.

I've been going to the Colonial for five years now. And for five years I have taken our historic, private theater for granted. How many evenings have I finished a quiet meal at home, not ready for bed but also unwilling to sit up and...More

The theatre is fully handicap accessible for both audience and performers, but not air conditioned – we have natural air conditioning up here in the mountains on most nights!
