A petting zoo? Ok not quite but there are some very interesting critters that have found themselves stranded in this oasis amongst the oasis that is Las Vegas. Not only that but there's fish, well people fishing that is as it appeared to be a slow day for anglers. None the less, Tule Springs a wonder are for a quick walk around the park so to speak, but if one is feeling adventurous and willing to brave the heat and venture away from the paved areas into more the more arid terrain, you can make quite the hike out of the park. It cost six dollars for the admittance fee which is well worth it for this gem far from the reaches of the densely populated more popular tourist attractions of Sin City. Its really quite refreshing and if spending more than a few days in Vegas, a highly recommended reprieve from the hustle and bustle of 'The Strip'. Waterfowl of several species can be observed as well as a few other avian varieties which don't quite fit into their surroundings but fit right into the oddity of an oasis itself. Many of the water fowl were raising their young at Tule Springs, so there are plenty of babies to watch run around! Shade can be found in bounty and if you keep an eye for a clear spot (free of nests and resting birds) it makes for a great afternoon retreat for a pic-nick. Solley speaking for the park area itself, if you're in Las Vegas and need a break from flashing lights and 'flashing flashing lights lights' spring into action and head to Tule Springs.

My Review is for the Floyd Lamb Park and Historic Ranch area of Tule Springs National Monument. This includes the Hike trails, Mt Bike trails, and horse trails area. These areas have facilites: toilets, benches. And, is used for hiking, excersize, fishing, and birding. The area is managed by the City of Las Vegas and Clark County. There is a small fee to enter, and they have discounts for Veterans, Seniors, and locals. The hike trails are almost all flat, for a easy walk except for the Mt Bike area.

Thea areas are well maintained, clean, and in excellent condition year around. For Birding or Bird Watching, this area is a living ecosystem for resident and migratory birds. The 1st visit was in March 2021, and have been back numerous times since. Each season brings new birds to record.

The location is ideal, and not many people during the weekdays. Best time for birding is all year.

Explore, wander and look on the ground. Bring water and a snack. Fascinating as it’s on the edge of town. Imagine how many fossils were crushed and destroyed to build the adjacent homes. Not much here other than a sign. Very new national monument.

Where to get your National park stamp! There are a few information booths around the Tule Springs Fossil beds but no defined trails or visitors center. But if you drive up to the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Visitor center 10 -15 miles north 95 you can get both stamps there. We liked the “info booth” and view best off Durango Road. We didn’t see anything near “The Big Dig” off Horse road. Overall Interesting history that this is the largest area of prehistoric fossils in the US (Giant woolly mammoths and saber tooth tigers, etc). More info available on the Protectors of Tule Springs Fossil Beds. No families only a sign, but you can hike out through the Nevada wash.

My understanding is that the NPS has plans to build up the site more. I hope that’s the case, because it has potential. I spent under an hour here and I’m glad I took the time, though it doesn’t offer much yet. I saw many reviews prior to my visit about trash and lack of maintenance but the area I visited and the time I visited, it was relatively clean. You can get your passport stamp at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.

We were pleasantly surprised when we visited this national monument. As others have said and there’s no restrooms available or visitor center. Your appreciation will likely match your knowledge of fossils; however, the views are beautiful and there are plenty of photo ops. We got our passport stamped at Lake Meade NRA.

The walk was nice. We did not see many animals. We counted 31 doggie poops but no fossils. The path was dry and easy. We did the entire loop and both if us would not come back. There are only ten spaces to park and most of the road had no parking signs. Not sure if the neighbors just don't want visitors. I gave it a three for exercise of an easy walk. Not much to see

No it’s not real busy, no they do not have a visitors center, but the views and hikes were amazing. We did not see any fossils but we also were not looking real hard. You can see all the different layers and you can see all kinds of old shells. We did a good two hour hike around the area but could have done a lot more.

Made the mistake of driving to the Moccasin Rd. access point, which meant I didn't get the stamp in my national park passport book. 😥 The rock pavements were harder than I had expected and formed interesting shapes. Some were little worm-like tubes. Given how much dog crap was along the trail, I couldn't help but wonder if those odd tubes were fossilized feces! Great temperature in the evening. Must be a frying pan during the day... Bring water and a hat!

I live next to the southeast end. I walk the dry river bed often. There is very little protection of the area and the locals still try to dump trash in the protected area. There has been no development of the trails yet either. The fossil beds are not marked yet, and should not be till on site protection can be established. With the new administration, it may be years before Tile Springs can be a distinction monument. You are better served going to Red Rock or Valley of Fire. If you do visit Tile Springs, be kind and haul some trash out with you.
