Beautiful walks and cycle tracks through this forest, an area set aside to be a 'fairy forest for the little ones and also 'Middle Earth with swings, climbing frames and all sorts of interesting oddities for the older kids of all ages, fantastic fun.

large seaside forest set out in a grid fashion so it's not difficult to get lost - unless you have a totally useless sense of direction! walks can be as long or short as you want, it is possible to cut through to the beach...More

This forest is really beautiful. And it's a great place to take kids, with a fairy park and an adventure park that John, a local resident, has built in his own time, with his own resources- it is fabulous.

Waitarere Forest is off Waitarere Beach Road. It is a working forest so you have to be aware of logging trucks, but they only take logs out about once a day. Otherwise it is such a peaceful, pleasant walk through 10 meter high pines. Birds...More
