Made famous by marchioness of Sevigne’s correspondence, the chateau of Grignan is the largest Renaissance palace in South-East France. Its majestic silhouette towering above the village offers magnificent panoramic views of the Drome provencale. Nowadays, collections of paintings, fine furniture and precious fabrics fill its elegant rooms.

Beautiful castle in a very charming setting. You can walk in and out of the rooms and the view is breathtaking. It’s a shame that in the summer they have put up a concert venue in the front of the chateau that blocks the “cour...More

Like a castle out of a storybook, the Chateau de Grignan rises up from its surrounding village on a hill, giving it sweeping views over the surrounding countryside (which is filled with lavender fields). I didn’t have time to go inside the castle itself, even...More

Combined with a walk around the village of Grignan, a visit to this chateau makes for good day trip if you are in the area. The chateau is a work in progress, but that is a great focus for one’s visit. From its earliest history,...More

We visited the castle set atop a hill overlooking the medieval village of Grignan. The facade is very impressive and the sandstone is quite pristine given the age of the building. Recent sandblasting meant the building was very, very bright in the sunshine. Sunglasses a...More

It's seems odd that after 3 visits to the area over the past 10 years, including one that had us 3 nights in the village itself, we never toured the Chateau. It's worth it.

The château started gaining renown in the 17th century with the visits of Madame de Sévigné and her letters to her daughter, Madame de Grignan. The once beautiful renaissance chateau was largely destroyed during the French revolution. Successive owners undertook restoration work up until the...More

We only had 40 minutes to see the Chateau before it closed for lunch but it meant that we had it to ourselves and the guides were very attentive. The views were spectacular and the interesting history was well presented. Well worth a visit.

When friends ask to see a French castle I bring them here. The views from the terrace are magnificent and the buildings, though a work in progress with more added each year, tell some interesting history that includes even some from the 20th century. My favorite...More

Interesting chateau with period furniture and wall hangings. Beautiful views of the countryside. Steep climb through the village to reach the chateau.
