As I had not yet visited the state of Mississippi, the only state in the lower east half of the US that I had not been to, we planned a Labor Day weekend driving trip that took us here. Rowan Oak was first on the...More

Our visit was enjoyable, but as far as historic house visits go, it is pretty average. The tour is self-guided and doesn't take very long since the house is not very big. It would have been better to have at least had an introduction by...More

Rowan Oak is an important landmark that needs better signage and needs to be taken better care of. University of MS certainly has the finances to upgrade and restore this property to how it was when Faulkner lived here. We weren't even sure if we...More

Any fan of Faulkner would be remiss not to visit Rowan Oak, his home in Oxford. The residence has been left as it was when Faulkner lived there complete with pencil scribblings on the wall!

If you are a fan of Faulkner you have to go here. My wife loves Faulkner, me not really but I loved seeing his house. It has been kept like he still lives there. I would go just for the history.

Rowan Oak is the home of William Faulkner. The house has been left as in his day. His typewriter is still there. The grounds are beautiful. Don’t worry about the oppressive Mississippi summer heat. The house has been air conditioned, and part of the upstairs...More

No, but Square Books, very close by in the center of town, has a large section of Faulkner's and other Southern authors' books.

As already stated by others, there are a number of nice eateries nearby. Of all the places I dined in the area, I enjoyed Big Bad Breakfast the most. They serve lunch as well as breakfast. The food is delicious and plentiful.
