It was a 35 to 40° day in Perth so we headed to South Fremantle for the first time. There was an overflow car park on the grass and it was still an easy walk to the beach. Our kids enjoyed the gentle waves. There are generous areas for sitting on grass underneath the trees. Yes there are a number of dogs, but what are you expecting the dog beach; there actually weren’t any that I noticed in the water.

Sunday morning at the South Fremantle Dog Beach is a time for an outing for both dogs and owners. Many are regulars. Dogs like to romp around while their owners chat. The dogs play on the beach; they chase fiercely and bark ferociously, but it's all in play -- dog-fights are rare. Things almost always sort themselves out amicably. It's a great morning out for dogs and owners.

Great little beach for dogs to heave a play with others. Prefect place to socialise your dog. There are dogs of all sizes and breeds. Easy to find a car park either at the hatch club or South Beach. Really enjoy it in the evening as beautiful sunsets over the ocean.

Some sociable dogs, but also some badly behaving and aggressive dogs visit here, can be risky, aggressive small dogs very adept in getting large docile dogs into trouble.
Some dog owners irresponsible/ignorant easily identified by them ignoring their dog and its deposits.

South Fremantle Dog beach is the best place to walk the dog.
Plenty of room for your dog to run carefree along the sand and have a dip.

Lovely lovely beach.
Lots of very social dogs running swimming and playing. There never seem to be any aggressive dogs (please help it stay this way).
Coffee cart in the park on the north side (next to sailing club) on the weekend.

You can swim here and it's a nice walk from the centre of Fremantle. Used by lots of locals to exercise here

Friendly locals and sooo many dogs. Gets v busy at the weekend but not too bad during the week. Very clean (responsible owners) and also no aggressive dogs (that I have seen). There is actually another dog beach a bit further south at North Coogee too, but this one is a short walk from the cool eateries of South Freo

We took our beloved Dingo/Kelpie cross Evelyn here almost every weekend for ten years.
On her last day even with the crippling osteoarthritis she still seemed so happy to be here.

Dogs love this beach. This western edge of the Australian continent is given over to pooches who can run, jump bark and have fun. They can jump in and out the water. Although they often growl and chase each other, they rarely come to blows.
