This Place Doesnt Like Toddlers
Nov 2021
We get the impression this place is run by older, busybody men that don't like children. I had planned on buying my 3-year old son a souvenir in the gift shop. He was playing with the toy trains to see which one he wanted and an older guy came up and said, "These aren't for playing with, they're for people who are buying." WHAT?! Does this guy not know how toy stores work?! This came after we were scolded by another worker/volunteer for another imagined offense. Never going back.

What Fun!

Friends from Texas wanted to see anything related to trains. I’ve known about the roundhouse for a long time now I wonder why I waited so long to get here. It’s a great place to take out of town company.

Entertaining & Informative Trip
Oct 2018 • Family
We recently took two of our grandsons (ages 7 & 11) to this museum. It was entertaining as well as educational. We were given a private tour to see the restoration of a locomotive, as well as a blacksmith's shop. The space where the trains were located was large, so the boys could go from train to train as often as they liked. We took a short ride in a train - 2 times. We were invited to ride with the engineer on one of the trips. The staff at the museum are all very knowledgeable and passionate about trains. There's an area where you can sit to have a snack. It was a great activity for a dreary, cold day.

Great railroad museum and extremely informative. Tour guide extremely knowledgeable about all displays and history of rail service in the St Paul Minnesota area. Would definitely visit again. Very much worth the stop.

Great for Young and Old Train Lovers!
Mar 2018 • Family
We visited the Jackson Street Roundhouse with our 2 and 15 year old grandsons. Both loved the place for different reasons. The 2 year old loved riding the train in the yard and moving in and out of the cars. The 15 year old lived the model train set up and papa and daddy loved it all. As a grandma who has seem lots of model trains, train stations, train museums and loves to ride the train herself, it was great sport to go to the Jackson Street Roundhouse. It is a work in progress, so I am excited to go back and see what they have done now!

Take your kids!
Mar 2017 • Family
See trains and life before the 70s. Trains and more for the kids to see. It's an indoor activity for winter, but plenty to see outside in summer. Looking for something to do with the little that you'll love too? This is it

Dining Car Dinner and "Ghost Train" Play
Apr 2017 • Couples
My wife and I attended the Jackson Street Roundhouse on the evening of 04/01/2017 to eat dinner in the Great Northern dining car and to see the play "The Ghost Train" by Arnold Ridley. In my opinion, the dinner (Champagne Chicken, butterflied shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley) was wonderful. It was served hot, and a very nice presentation on the white linen covered tables - and above all, was delicious! The play was also enjoyable - I often felt immersed in the situation presented. This group of actors appeared to be very talented - working well together, and not just reciting the lines - but "living" the moment. We will definitely attend future Jackson Street Roundhouse events! Way to go!!

For train buffs

If you are a train-buff, this is a nice place to visit. Many original items to look at. If you go with a train-buff, grab a bench, read a book and relax.

Very interesting for train buffs.

This museum has a working, full size engine and caboose which you can take for a short ride. Also has a working blacksmith shop where they make the parts they need to repair their trains. A great and cheap place to visit.
