Riding the rail
Jul 2021
The trip on the train was great. The views of the River were beautiful. It was fun to watch how excited the children were. The parking lot fills up fast so ts best to park at the bottom of the hill.

Don't Miss this Train Ride!
Jun 2021
Can not say enough about this experience! The ride was awesome, you got to move from car to car while the train was moving, there were volunteers everywhere so if you had a question they were right there to answer it. Will be going back because we and our grandson had a great time!

Wonderful Family Day
Nov 2020
Our whole family had so much fun! It was great to have someone tell us all about the mailcart and steam engine. My 11 year old had a great time learning about the steam engine. Thank you to the guys who took the time to explain everything and give us a wonderful history lesson. My 5 and 3 year old loved the train ride and the model train!

Lots of fun and educational

My kids loved the little train ride that comes included in the admission. Next, on to exploring different types of trains and playing with all things train related. It was really neat to see my kids enjoy learning about trains. Highly recommended

Located in the Original Empire Builder roundhouse, there are many dislpays and exhibits of thransportaion through St Puls history. of rail and other public transportation. There's a working locomotive turntable outside and a smaell working rail yard. You can ride in a caboose, see different locomotives of the times. Inside, there are interactive displays and informayion about safety and transportation through time in St Aul and beyond.

For kids and adults

This is a wonderful spot for all ages of people that enjoy trains. Lots of vintage cars and engines to walk through with tons of model trains and train related toys for kids. Also on Wednesday and Saturday there is a kids program with storytelling, songs, crafts and snacks - all train related.

A Neat Train Museum, with Tours of Restoration Projects in Progress!
Aug 2018 • Couples
We planned a Minnesota State Fair vacation and looked for additional attractions to bolt onto our Twin Cities visit. We are really glad we put this one on the list!

Housed in an old railroad maintenance roundhouse, the museum has a number of displays that include restored train cars that can be walked through. Lots of attention to child friendly games and adventures are provided. The museum also provides a short train ride in an old caboose, where you are encouraged to climb up and sit in the cupola -- which is really a neat experience. We'll echo the previous comments about the outside looking a bit rough, but take our work -- check out the inside. You'll be glad you did!

The Hidden Gem" of this museum is the docent lead tour of the restoration projects ongoing in part of the museum. It includes "work in progress" on a number of train cars and a steam engine. The tour includes an explanation of what the unit started like, the current plan, and a discussion of the current state of the restoration. It also included an informative visit to the blacksmith shop, where many of the restoration iron/steel pieces are created. (Tip: Make a request for the docent led tour at the ticket window, as they seem to run on an "as requested" basis)
