We love going to museums and this one did not let us down. Our guide gave us all the answers to questions we had about the area and the river/lake area and the ships that pass through the locks. Man was very creative with his answers, very friendly.

I think when they moved it was to a smaller facility. In my opinion, it had very little history of the river and even less history that was more than a 100 years old since most of it was mostly post-1910's. Pricey for what they offered; gift shop was pricey and very limited in gifts.

I am sorry to hear that we were not what you had expected when visiting. The Museum starts with first settlers to the area and moves thru the years to what the St. Mary's River was used for with fishing, logging and hydro power it is not all about 1800's early 1900's history. We moved to this location in July of 2009 and our gift shop isn't your typical gift shop we carry items that are more locally made and not the tourist type items.

This museum packs a lot more than it looks like it will from the outside. Rooms are filled with winding paths that are chock full of exhibits and information. An audio tour enhances your visit, even if it does become a bit long with information with the stories that are being told. A hockey exhibit makes you wonder how anyone survived hockey with the little protection they wore! If you are in town and looking to learn about the area's history, this museum is worth a visit. We took about 90 minutes to tour it, while others just walked through, so it will give you what you are looking for.

This museum struck me as a politicaly correct museum. In my opinion a museum should show you what was, not what is the current explanation of why.

The River of History has facts about the area and the past. Some of our partners that helped build our displays may have expressed opinions that are theirs and not those of the River of History.

Lots of artifacts from the area, and some interesting scenes. Lovely murals/paintings. A couple fun hands on activities, such as maneuvering canoes up an accurate plaque that's a map of the river. Museum is on the smaller side.

We had some time so we took a quick tour of this museum. It was small museum. Nothing spectacular that stood out.

This is a well-kept museum. There are audio sticks available so you can listen to narration as you go through. This museum deals with how the area developed, starting with the Ojibwa people, then showing the change as missionaries, fur traders, French, and English arrived. There is a ticket option that allows entrance to the Museum Ship Valley Camp and Tower of History, too.
