While staying in Uzes we took the short drive over to the small, average little village of Collias simply to have a stroll by the river that runs through the Gorges du Gardon and on to Pont du Gard.

There were lots of families sunbathing, swimming and jumping off high rocks into the river and it is an attractive spot, although the riverbank areas are rather scruffy with lots of graffiti. There is also a simple kiosk type cafe for cold drinks and ice creams.

From Collias we tool a circular B route through the countryside back to Uzes and, altogether, it was a pleasant drive out.

What a great experience to canoe through the Gorges du Gardon with the great assistance of Canoe Collias who as I am partially disabled ewere wonderful in helping me to be safe as possible in one of their canoes. A great way to spend the day just slowly going down the river stopping off at pebbly beaches and rushing though some rapids paddling hard. Absolutely Great!

Incredible hikes in and around this area- so scenic a real feast for the eyes. The sound of the Gardon flowing and the birds singing just adds to the ambiance. A wonderful place to bring a picnic and spend a few hours- our kids managed a decent hike and then loved attempting to catch frogs! Highly recommend for nature lovers of all ages and abilities as there are both gentler hikes as well as those that are more strenuous. Either way, it's not hard to find an idyllic spot to plonk yourself down and take in your surrounds.

We kayaked down the Gorges du Gardon. The water was cold and clear, over a rocky bottom. There were rocky beaches and limestone cliffs. Frankly, it reminded me of the Sierras in Northern California. If you want a day with nature and/or a day on the water during a trip to Provence, just contact one of several kayak outfitters and enjoy.
