About
Visitors looking for a fun hands-on lesson in Korean history should not miss the annual Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival. A short bus ride from Seoul, the Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, celebrates the legacy of King Jeongjo of the Joseon Dynasty every October. The free event includes traditional music and martial arts performances as well as a play area offering a glimpse of 18th century life. The coinciding Suwon Love Light and Food Culture Festivals round out the experience.

This festival be held at Hwaseong Haenggung Palace. You can see so many peformances in this festival, for example: world's traditional costume festival, kim jeongjo's royal thomb event, and more. Don't worry, this festival is free of charge.

My family went in the Saturday afternoon and had a great time. The whole city was decorated with lanterns and art work. There were lanterns and laser light show by the "chicken restaurants" river at night and many activities for kids during the day including art craft, traditional toys, farming tools, live traditional music, parade, etc. The "nighttime war enactment" by Changnyongmun was spectacular. Overall, a great, fun event.

Hwaseong HaengGung is very beautiful and natural. I joined Hwaseong Festival last year and that was amazing. If you are interested in Korean Culture you should come to Suwon and visit Hwaseong HaengGung.
The Festival is held every October (around 5th to 7th). Performances at the Opening ceremony is spectacular! You can enjoy many exciting activities here such as playing traditional games, enjoying food festival, citizen marching and take the tourist train to see around.
