- Chevy1806118 contributionsBeautiful! This spring is stunning! My husband and I visited in the evening and had the whole place to ourselves. It was kind of real to look at. Definitely suggest a visit but it probably wont' take more than a half hour, depending on how busy it is.Visited June 2022Written January 5, 2023
- JC-MegBaltimore, Maryland845 contributionsGreat science and history experienceStopped in randomly on our way home from Pictured Rocks, happy we did. Great opportunity for the toddlers in our group to see plenty of fish, learn about the springs and help wheel the observation raft out and back to the dock. Interesting science and history experience. Plenty of parking & restrooms. Small gift shop. Overall great experience and would recommendVisited August 2022Written January 11, 2023
- Jesus4life72385Dry Ridge, Kentucky40 contributionsBeautiful springOur daughter's speech therapist told us about this place. We stopped here on our way up to Munising. I wish we'd have had time to explore the park but we just did the boat part. It was really neat to see how beautiful and clear the water is. You can even see the spring bubbling down below in the water! We all enjoyed this stop.Visited June 2023Written July 8, 2023
- Ashley CMilton, Wisconsin30 contributionsBlue waters, incredible place!Put this place on your to visit list! It is worth the stop and looks exactly like the pictures! The water is exactly that blue and stunning! We had to wait a little bit to ride the boat but it was shaded the entire time we were waiting and a generally pleasant experience. For those of you who collect pressed pennies, bring your change with! We will be back again!Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 19, 2023
- kaychris0215Chicago, Illinois18 contributionsQuick and beautiful stopWe arrived at 8am when the park opened and stayed all of 15-20 mins. Only one other family there. We rode the ferry twice. It was beautiful and the water was crystal clear. Pictures do not do justice. If you’re in the area, I would stop by quick.Visited July 2023Traveled with familyWritten July 29, 2023
- Monica SchlichtMiddleton, Wisconsin8 contributionsGreat experience for our familyWe waited about 45 minutes (late Sunday morning visit) but worth it for the experience. Enjoyed an interesting discussion with employee Alec on all things about the site. Time on boat maybe 15 minutes. Wonderful views. - Randy D6 contributionsKitch-iti-kipi always worth a stopHave stopped here numerous times and always find it an amazing experience to see water clear enough to view the bottom at 42 ft and watch the sand bubble as 10,000 gallons of water per minute bubble up. It is also a treat to see the lake trout and other fish that swim upstream from the lake. I particularly made the stop to share the experience with my 17 year old grandson, who enjoyed the viewing raft and the Big Spring as well as the well stocked gift shop.Visited August 2023Written August 22, 2023
- GretaLynn4 contributionsBeautiful natural wonder in the middle of nowhere! Cost is only $11 to enter Michigan State Parks!Great sight to take in! Dirt cheap! Buy an $11 day pass for Michigan Parks (per vehicle)is all it is! No extra charge for the raft ride. Raft is self-operated by visitors. Runs on a cable and you turn the big wheel to move it across the spring. Observation view on bottom of raft was cool to view w/o glare to bottom of spring, see fish and how the spring bubbles up the sand. Really cool! Short and interesting natural wonder! Nice gift shop too!Visited September 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten September 29, 2023

This is a must see when visit Upper Michigan. It's a short puller raft over the most stunning crystal-clear waters. It's a great visit for older, and younger families.

The spring is beautiful. It is a self guided tour back to the spring area; just a short walk. There is a self propelled floating device that visitors can board and pilot together which will take you out into the spring where you can see the water bubbling on the bottom. There are no tour guides. The signs in the area are self explanatory.

I would recommend going to the website. We went during the summer and now that there is cooler weather, you may have to follow the website rules and regulations.
Does the RAFT operate in October?

According to a web search of palms book state park on michigan -org, it is open year round.
How much does it cost
Darric R
Muskegon County, MI88 contributions
It’s free as long as you have a recreational passport on your license plate or state park sticker in your window. If you don’t have either, I THINK you can buy one for $10. There was no per person cost.

I‘ve heard the line for the boat can be long so it’s best to go early. What time does it start to get busy? We can’t get there when it opens, but maybe late morning.

I would guess before 11:00 According to the locals because of COVID the lines are long but normally they aren’t. The lines go pretty quickly and most of it is in shade. Masks are required and they don’t load the raft to full capacity. It’s an interesting free site to stop at. Hope this helps!
Are there set departure times? Who captains the raft?

You can use the raft at anytime. It’s very primitive and low key. Beautiful experience
Can we do snorkeling here

No this is a small Lake that you go across and can look to the bottom and see where it is fed by a spring. It's more of an attraction.
Are they open Sunday

Yes, they are open on Sundays.
