We camped at site 51 near the bathroom with our daughter's family in site 52. The sites were grassy and level with close access to the lake. The bathroom was clean. The park is close to town and attractions. We visited the Bishop Baraga Shrine which is on the northeast side of the lake. The kids enjoyed swimming. There are also some great sunsets to view across the lake. The park could use an updated playground. WiFi would also be a nice addition. There are some nice horseshoe pits and a great picnic shelter. There are also some excellent sites with lake views.

One of our families favorite state parks. 3 kids twin 14 y/o boys and 11 y/o daughter. Good fishing lake with decent action. Water is fairly clean just dark. Swimmers should be aware it's always had a swimmers itch issue. We always hit the showers after swimming. Sites for most part are spacious and level. Very busy campground and I mean campers don't stay long almost like a stop over for a night along to another destination.

Beautiful Lake. Nice campground. Nice amenities. Fills up fast. Camp host was very friendly and offered morning coffee and donuts. Bathrooms and showers were very clean and well cared for. Nice setting for a campground with a beautiful view of the Lake. Only a short drive to Lake Michigan. Fills up fast so get your reservations in early. October is a beautiful time to visit this area.

Beautiful view of the lake from your campsite and very clean. Would not recommend for my fellow tent campers. This place is 95% RVs and very packed, unfortunately didn't have a great experience with the RV neighbors around us, little respect or understanding for how tents differ from sleeping in an RV. One example, when sleeping in a tent at 11 p.m. its very disturbing to have a truck shine there lights directly into your tent because they need to look for something. Quiet hours aren't really enforced.

Waited to book a lakeside spot and it was just lovely. Manistique is a cute little town, with a good supermarket. Took a day trip to Munising. Great trip. Was there Mon-Thurs in mid-August and it was quite crowded. Typical experience with children who run through your campsite, etc. but really a great trip!!

This was our second time at Indian Lake State Park. The campsite was level and nice. We were not on lake access. We used the campground as our base and took a day trip to Marquette. Our Verizon cell service with internet was great.
My only wish is that this state park would get a facelift for the bathrooms/showers like some of the other Michigan State parks have gotten recently.

Indian Lake is an underutilized Lake about seven miles across at its widest point. It is a shallow lake, about 15 feet deep at its deepest point so it is generally warmer than nearby lake Michigan. . It has mostly sandy beaches that slope gradually so it is ideal for young kids to swim.so there are no abrupt drop offs.
Very good panfish fishing, especially Walleye

We were very lucky to find one of the last campsites right on the lake.
They also have a few scattered campsites throughout the park than can only be reserved in person, which is nice if one/both of you forget to call/log in to reserve a campsite in advance of arriving.
Campgrounds takes credit cards, which is nice, they have some firewood for sale onsite, as well as a vendor who rents bicycles and canoes/kayaks, along with paddles and life jackets.
All camp personnel were very friendly/hospitable, the shower house/bathroom facilites were slightly dated, but clean and easy to use. They come stocked with toilet paper, and electric hand dryers.
There are two other large buildings, which can be rented/reserved for other functions. One is by the beach, and one is closer to the boat launch. Both very clean, have indoor fireplaces that can be utilized, and picnic table seating for fairly large groups.
The lake is large, but fairly shallow throughout the entire lake. Not the best for fishing, but incredible for families interested in swimming. The shore also if very limited on rocks, so very easy for small children to walk out to the sand.
There are several areas where you can walk down stairs to access the lake, and there are benches at the top of the steps where you can relax, look out over the lake, or do some reading, maybe novels, newspapers, or family e-mails.
No onsite free WiFi we could detect, unless it was a pay by day setup. Fair/reasonable reception from VZW, did not check on ATT signal.
Camp host has free coffee from 8AM to 11AM, and it was not too bad.
Activities once or twice a day from the Park personnel.
One or two trails for hiking/biking are within the Park.
Heavily shaded wooded lots, sunny lots, lots right next to the lake, small lots, large lots, 20/30/50 amp sites, and some ADA sites.
Right down the road is the Kitchi-Ti-Kipi spring, with a human powered raft ride over a large spring with huge trout swimming below it. Also part of a State park.
All Michigan DNR campgrounds will require a pass, if you are a resident, you can buy a annual pass to all campgrounds. The pass is not per-person, but rather a per car fee.
Try it, we guarantee you will like it, with our cold beer in the river for you guarantee.

Almost anyplace in the Michigan Upper Peninsula is my happy place but Indian Lake is especially beautiful. At this time of year as the kids go back to school it is especially nice in the UP. Quiet and uncrowded. Indian Lake State Park is well maintained and very enjoyable.

We stayed at the Indian Lakes State Park for 7 nights in a tent. The sites are spacious and most are grass covered. The restrooms and showers were extremely clean with plenty of hot water. The access to canoes and row boats was a real treat. Well maintained. Great family or solo spot. Friendly and helpful state rangers. Highly recommend!!!

Yes there are a few sets of wooden steps that lead down to the lake. We simply carried our kayaks down to the water without needing to go to the beach area.
