Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 14 - October 7, 2018. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

I visited the gardens while visiting a friend who lives in Holland. January isn't the best time to see the gardens, but she wanted to show off an important part of her community. I would really want to return in the summer.

Excellent reincarnation of what the Netherlands used to be like. However I am a bit partial seeing as my father had much to do with the engineering layout and reconstruction of the windmill and surrounding property

If you like the idea of experiencing a taste of Europe a visit to Windmill Island Gardens is about as close as you can get. The original, from Holland, windmill is quiet a thing to see. Transported and rebuilt on the island with the canals...More

Interesting quaint Dutch village. Educational. Saw wheat being commercially ground in an actual windmill. One disappoint, not being told that Holland Michigan residents, and tax payers get in free. Friends from Holland Michigan disappointed that fact was not posted or conveyed.

Windmill Island has something for all ages. Its a beautiful walk, fun for the kids and relaxing for the elderly. The tour through the Windmill is interesting and educational. Its a must see when visiting Holland in the spring.

This is an interesting place with the authentic Dutch windmill that still works. An authentically dressed person gives tours and explains everything. The tulips are gorgeous around May - fantastic family attraction!

Get there early, Holland City did add a parking structure, not that far away. (There is also some parking on the grounds)

Hi Joyce - the majority of our tulips are in bloom right now. Cold temps help the blooms stay longer so we're happy about the cooler weather. On the 10th we should still have many tulips in bloom. Keep an eye on our website... More
