We drove to the Saugatuck / Holland area, looking to spend time on Lake Michigan. We did not know what to expect at the Saugatuck State Park, but when we got there, the parking area was pretty full, we were not sure what trail to...More

You park, in the parking lot if you're lucky, or on the road if the lot's full, and then you walk to get to the beach. The short route is six tenths of a mile. We intended to take the short route, but the trail...More

Have been here before and had an even better time this year! First off, you have to hike about a mile from the parking lot to the beach. The walk is pretty, but slightly harder while carrying your beach gear. The beach last year had...More

After an afternoon at Oval Beach, I was looking for something less crowded. This park was perfect! A relatively easy walk through wooded area (well, easy not carrying a bunch of stuff) to reach the beach. Pick up a map at the gate; signs aren’t...More

This is a truly beautiful spot. Be aware, you walk through the dunes, through a forest to reach the beach. It is about a half mile, but so very worth the time, it is so peaceful and unspoiled. We come here all seasons of the...More

Our family had a lovely walk through the forest to the lake shore. Lake Michigan is spectacular. We all enjoyed the views. Surprisingly, in this case, the dunes are mostly heavily forested, but it was a nice surprise on a sunny summer day.

Charming side trip to piddle in the dunes with the little ones. Beach IS NOT deep. It is long and narrow. The dunes themselves can be walked but I have climbed 1000’s of feet in the Rockies and was less exhausted...the sand falls away under...More

Well worth the MILE walk through the trails of the dunes to get to the beach. I would definitely bring a wagon to carry chairs, towels, etc. The beach is long but narrow and the sand is very clean and soft like sugar. Must see!

Trails are generally well-marked along the way, but if you are not able to find a map (and they seemed to be scarce at the trail entrances on the day we walked so we completed our first walk without one), you may find yourself veering...More

I was hoping to find a quiet beach for a few hours of solo time. I took the North Trail back to the beach which was a nice hike. The beach was clean with only a few other people there. Taking the main trail to...More

I would not recommend using a walker out on the trails. It's well maintained but I imagine it would be difficult to to get around - especially in the sandy areas. However when you first arrive there is a nice picnic spot... More

Do not even consider it with young kids. Go to Oval Beach. I will not go back to Saugatuck Dunes National Park. Had a bad experience. Trails were not well marked in spots and it's a hard climb in some areas.
