Dec 2023 • Family
Our family visited Campus Martius Park just after Christmas. The lights and decorations are beautiful. The giant Christmas tree is really nice. We went ice skating on the rink at the foot of the Christmas tree and enjoyed it. The staff at the Rink were very friendly.
We also rode the bumper cars in the park. We also played the hockey mini-golf they had. It was a lot of fun.
Parking nearby can be a little tricky. We found a garage and there was plenty of space there.

This downtown park is nice. During our visit they had free activities here. Mini golf, basketball, and food and drinks were all options.

This is a wonderful, though fairly small, park located in downtown near the River. It has plenty of room for sitting, and the trees and plants are a welcome respite. The presence of a bar and a nice restaurant make Campus Martius a fine choice on a nice day.

On a weekend, lots of activity (music, chess players, random human activity. On a weekday (I was there on a Sunday and Monday), pretty quiet but very nice oasis right downtown.

This park actually is a re-established area after a fire that took place in 1805. This area was to be the initial area where Detroit would rebuild the city.
It’s a small yet quaint park area that has several umbrella tables, nice music playing, a stage for live bands and a few food trucks.
It’s a nice place to take a break and enjoy looking at the historic statues and buildings.

In the summer there are food trucks and yoga or dance classes held. There is an out door bar with a sand pit

I spent some time at the Campus Martius Park during their holiday lighting season, so it was very beautiful. All decked out in holiday lights and small local shops. It is clearly an annual tradition to have this area decked for the holidays, and it is worth a visit when you are in the city during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Between ice skating, holiday movies, drinks and shopping you can certainly spend a bit of time taking in the sights. I would say that on a nice day you could spend an hour or two walking around this area and taking some photos. I can't speak to what this is like during a non-holiday season, but clearly during the holiday season it is worth your time to walk over to.

This is nice outdoor space in the heart of downtown. It has a nice combination of bars and restaurants, outdoor activities and seating. In good weather this is a great place for people watching.

We were on the peddle bike and walked over to the beach. I was pleasantly surprised, a nice relaxing place in downtown. I had a drink and found a seat on the sand and listened to the live band. SOOO relax , I will be back with friends.

Don't know since I went in early fall. Sorry, but does it even matter if you get to skate?

Yes. There are several stops to People Mover, a few of them are relatively close to Campus Martius.
Is there anywhere to put a small backpack when going ice skating?

Where do I park?

There is a variety of paid parking, including on the street, surface lots and parking structures. Depending on how long you plan to stay, the street parking would be your cheapest alternative.
It might be fun to check out detroit's newest hotel, the Shinola on Woodward. There's also a Shinola store.
If you're into street art, The nearby Z-Lot and Belt Alley might be of interest. There's murals on each level of the parking structure. If you like architecture, you must check out the Guardian Building, an Art Deco jewel.
Hart Plaza near the riverfront has an interesting fountain and some sculptures.
Well, there a few suggestions.
This is my first time thinking of going. How much is it to enter the park for the beach?

Everything, except food and possibly skating, is free in Campus Martius Park. If the "beach" is there, please know that it's not an actual beach. More like a lot of sand, with volleyball nets and such. No water anywhere. Still a fun time.

The park is free to enter. The beach is artificial, and not adjacent to water. Still a fun time.

I would park in the Z Parking Garage. It's a few blocks away in another cool part of town. Next to The Belt (alley). Depending what time it is stop at the Skip in the ally for a frozen cocktail. The garage is an experience in of itself with all of its painted murals.

do you offer horse carriage rides

There are no carriage rides in Campus Martius Park. During the week there are multiple food trucks and often have live music during the lunchtime hours. The Q-line now runs past the park as well.
